Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.


A copy of the import permit must be presented to an Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

All nursery stock must be sourced from an approved nursery stock plant supplier as listed in Appendix 3.4 of the Vanuatu Import Specification Manual

Each plant in the consignment must be clearly labeled with its scientific name.

Each plant in the consignment must be free of compost, earth, peat or soil unless an exemption from this requirement has been specifically stated on the permit.

The exporter must provide the Department of Agriculture Authorised Officer with sufficient supporting evidence attesting to the requirements of the inspection of the plants in the consignment and to enable the Phytosanitary endorsement to be certified against.

Following arrival in Vanuatu, the plants must undergo a minimum of 3 months quarantine in the Vanuatu Quarantine and Inspection Service quarantine facility or some other quarantine glasshouse/screen house that may be approved for the purpose by the Vanuatu Quarantine and Inspection Service.
Prior to export, the plants must be treated with an insecticide, a fungicide and a nematicide at the manufacturers recommended rate.

Recommended chemicals are:

Insecticide:

  • Diazinon;
  • Naled;
  • Biphenthrin (bifenthrin);
  • Endosulfan.

Fungicide:

  • Carboxyl;
  • Imazalil;
  • Captan;
  • Thiabendazole.

Nematicide:

  • Oxamyl;
  • Aldicarb;
  • Carbufuran;
  • Fostil.

The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.
