Western Australia is recognised as a PFA for Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni), excluding Queensland fruit fly outbreak zones.
Fumigation of consignments are undertaken onshore in Australia and under USDA, APHIS supervision in Australia
Option 1: Methyl bromide fumigation at Normal Atmospheric Pressure (under tarpaulin or in chamber) followed by cold treatment:

Cold treatment: 0.56 degrees Celsius or below for 21 daysfollowed by Fumigation:
- 21.11 degrees Celsius or above at 32 grm/m3 for 2 hours (minimum concentration reading at 0.5 hours = 850 grams & minimum concentration reading at 2 hours = 709 grams;
OR
- 15.55 - 20.55 degrees Celsius at 40 grm/m3 for 2 hours (minimum concentration reading at 0.5 hours = 1020 grams & minimum concentration reading at 2 hours = 794 grams;
OR
- 4.44 - 15 degrees Celsius of above at 48 grm/m3 for 2 hours (minimum concentration reading at 0.5 hours = 1247 grams & minimum concentration reading at 2 hours = 1020 grams.
Note:
- Cold treatment must be undertaken onshore in Australia prior to fumigation, which is undertaken onshore in Australia and under USDA, APHIS supervision in Australia.
- Cold treatment maybe undertaken in-transit, subject to fumigation having been undertaken on-shore in Australia and under USDA, APHIS supervision in Australia.
- Load is not to exceed 80% of chamber capacity. Time lapse between fumigation and start of cooling is not to exceed 24 hours.
