Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.
If the consignment is being exported under a Letter of Authority (LoA) issued by the UK NPPO, the consignment can be sent without a phytosanitary certificate. The UK NPPO notified that a signature from the Australian NPPO (the department) is not required for LoAs issued on and after 1 November 2022.
Consignments of prescribed grain over 10kg require an Authorised Officer inspection and the issuance of an export permit prior to export. Refer to 1-7 of the Export Control (Plants and Plant Products) Rules 2021 for the definition of prescribed grain. Consignments of any quantity of seed which is not a prescribed grain, and consignments containing 10kg or less of prescribed grain, may be exported without an Authorised Officer inspection and the issuance of an export permit.
