This is a protocol market. Growers, packhouses and treatment facilities must meet the requirements outlined in the Thailand strawberry protocol and be accredited by the department for export to Thailand. Only fruit sourced, packed and/or treated from accredited properties will be certified.
Protocols are available through Micor Plants in the Documents section. Access is restricted and requires a logon.
The Thailand Ministry of Public Health, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires packhouses to implement good practice requirements. Further information regarding these requirements can be found here .
Strawberry fruit produced in the following PFAs are permitted to be exported to Thailand:
Fruit produced in areas where Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni) is known to occur is prohibited to be exported to Thailand.
Fruit which has been produced from all other states and regions (including the Riverland district of South Australia and the Sunraysia district of Victoria and New South Wales) is prohibited to be exported to Thailand.
A copy of the original and official translation of the import permit must be presented to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.
Details of registered packhouses are to be stated on the Phytosanitary certificate in the 'Shipping Marks' field. The information is to be entered as P/HOUSE:SBXXX-PCTXX.
There is to be no deviation from this text format.
At the time of inspection, the AO must check via the DPIRD website (Queensland fruit fly: declared pest | Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development) to confirm that the fruit was sourced from properties outside the Como and South Perth suspension areas.
The AO must confirm this in writing in the comments field on the Horticulture Inspection Record attached to the RFP.
Explanation of endorsements
- Fruit produced in Tasmania - Endorsement 2513 applies.
- Fruit produced in Tasmania when an outbreak of Mediterranean fruit fly is declared - Endorsement 2515 applies.
- Fruit produced in Western Australia - Endorsement 2514 applies.
Fruit sourced from Tasmania, when not in declared outbreak, do not require treatment.
Fruit sourced from Tasmania, with declared outbreaks of Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata) are subject to Methyl bromide fumigation treatment as described below.
Fruit sourced from Western Australia are subject to Methyl bromide fumigation treatment as described below.
The following fumigation schedule is approved by Thailand DOA to eliminate Mediterranean fruit fly:
Fruit sourced from Tasmania, with declared outbreaks of Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata) are subject to Methyl bromide fumigation treatment as described below.
Fruit sourced from Western Australia are subject to Methyl bromide fumigation treatment as described below.
The following fumigation schedule is approved by Thailand DOA to eliminate Mediterranean fruit fly:
- Methyl bromide at 48 grm/m3 at 15 degrees Celsius or greater for 3 hours.
- The loading ratio should not exceed 50% of the chamber volume.

Treatment code: FUMIG
Description: WITH METHYL BROMIDE AT 48 GRM/M3 AT 15 DEGREES CELSIUS FOR 3 HOURS.
Note: Treatment dates should be entered into the appropriate field.
Any consignments originating from the Western Australia PFA moving to the Como and South Perth suspension area for fumigation treatment must be transported in a phytosanitary-secured manner.
The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the secure movement through a Transfer Record and present it the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.
The original copy of the fumigation certificate must accompany the phytosanitary certificate.
Option 1 (EXDOC Endorsement 2513)
1) The consignment of strawberry fruit has been produced and prepared for export in accordance with the conditions or import of strawberry fruit from Australia to Thailand,
2) The consignment of strawberry fruit has been produced in Tasmania which is a pest free area for Lesser Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera neohumeralis), Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni) and Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata).
Option 2 (EXDOC Endorsement 2514)
1) The consignment of strawberry fruit has been produced and prepared for export in accordance with the conditions for import of strawberry fruit from Australia to Thailand,
2) The consignment of strawberry fruit has been produced in Western Australia and treated for Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata).
Option 3 (EXDOC Endorsement 2515)
1) The consignment of strawberry fruit has been produced and prepared for export in accordance with the conditions for import of strawberry fruit from Australia to Thailand,
2) The consignment of strawberry fruit has been produced in Tasmania and treated for Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata).
