These conditions apply to potatoes for human consumption.

Examine for visual symptoms of stem nematode (Ditylenchus dipsaci), and for presence of Light brown apple moth (Epiphyas postvittana) at the time of inspection.

Potatoes which are sourced, produced or exported from Victoria and Western Australia are prohibited to be exported due to Potato cyst nematode (Globodera rostochiensis).

All plants and plant products transhipped through countries or districts where designated insects, mites, fungi, bacteria, viruses or nematodes occur shall be properly packed and secured in Australia in such a way that they shall not be in contact with any other consignment.

Plants and plant products exported by sea transport shall be transported in containers which are sealed and arrive in Taiwan with seals intact.

It is the exporters' responsibility for ensuring the seal is applied to containers.

Sprout Inhibitor
All potatoes must be treated to inhibit sprouting prior to export. Accepted methods of inhibit sprouting are chemical inhibitors or ionising radiation.

The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and to present to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

IMPORTANT: On arrival in Taiwan, potatoes must not have sprouts exceeding 5mm. Taiwan imposes this rule strictly, and the finding of a single sprouted potato on a sample at inspection may result in rejection of the consignment.

Irradiation (to inhibit sprouting)

  • Irradiation at a minimum of 150 Gy

For consignments irradiated to inhibit sprouting the treatment certificate is to be presented to the AO.
