Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.

Only the following Prunus species are permitted to be exported to Taiwan:
  • Cherry (Prunus avium)
  • Nectarine (Prunus persica var. nucipersica)
  • Peach (Prunus persica var. persica)
Mixed consignments of different species/varieties of fresh fruits (e.g. nectarine and peach) undergoing in transit and on shore cold treatment are not permitted by the Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine, Taiwan.

Explanation of fruit fly pest free areas (PFAs)

The following areas are recognised as pest free areas for Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni) and Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata):

•            Tasmania

AND

Exporters sourcing fruit from the Riverland must present a State government certificate at the time of inspection which states all fruit was sourced from properties outside the suspension areas.


Packhouses (from fruit fly PFAs only) and treatment facilities are to be accredited by the department for the export to Taiwan.

The packhouse accreditation number/s (PFA only) must be entered into the "Shipping Marks" field of the EXDOC Request for Permit (RFP). The information must state: PACKHOUSE NO: XXXX.
Where applicable, the exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the endorsement and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.
The consignment must be exported within 14 days of certification.

TAIWAN TRANSHIPPING REQUIREMENTS

Consignments which are being transhipped through countries or districts where designated insects, mites, fungi, bacteria, viruses or nematodes occur shall be properly packed and secured in Australia in such a way that they shall not be in contact with any other consignment.

Plants and plant products exported by sea transport shall be transported in containers which are sealed and arrive in Taiwan with seals intact.
Fruit sourced from outside fruit fly PFAs, or from declared outbreak zones within PFAs, must be treated for Queensland fruit fly and/or Mediterranean fruit fly and are subject to onshore cold treatment or in-transit cold treatment. 
 
Cold treatment schedules

Fruit originating from areas where Queensland fruit fly is present must be treated using the following cold treatment parameters:
Innermost fruit pulp temperature (degrees Celsius) - Exposure period (consecutive days)
3 degrees Celsius or below, for 14 days or more

Fruit originating from areas where Mediterranean fruit fly is present must be treated using the following cold treatment parameters:
Innermost fruit pulp temperature (degrees Celsius) - Exposure period (consecutive days):
  • 1.11 degrees Celsius or below, for 14 days or more

OR

  • 1.67 degrees Celsius or below, for 16 days or more

OR

  • 2.22 degrees Celsius or below, for 18 days or more.
In-transit cold treatment

All fruit must be pre-cooled at or below the treatment temperature before loading.

Details of treatment to be endorsed on the Phytosanitary certificate in the treatment section:
Format for intransit cold treatment (example)

Treatment code as: “PRECOL" and treatment information as: “At or below 2.22 degrees Celsius"

Note: The date in which pre-cooling occurred is to be entered into the Start and End Date fields (same date into both fields).


Onshore cold treatment

Onshore cold treatment can only be carried out at a Registered Establishment that is also accredited to treat fruit for Taiwan. Treatment will be monitored by an Authorised Officer with the appropriate job function.

Cold treatment, including loading of palletised fruit into the cold room, must be supervised by an Authorised Officer.

The name and registered establishment number of the accredited cold treatment facility must be entered in the "Lot number" section of the EXDOC Request For Permit (RFP) as: ONSHORE COLD TREATMENT AT <REGISTERED ESTABLISHMENT NAME> / <NUMBER>. There is to be no deviation from this text format.

The following treatment details are required on the phytosanitary certificate in the "Treatment" section:
  • treatment temperature, and
  • treatment duration (number of consecutive days).

Option 1 (EXDOC Endorsement 1668)
1) A representative sample was inspected and found free of Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata) and Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni), Codling moth (Cydia pomonella), Western flower thrip (Frankliniella occidentalis) and Light brown apple moth (Epiphyas postvittana),
2) The fruit has undergone cold treatment prior to shipment,
3) The fruit in this consignment has been secured against infestation by fruit flies during transport.

Option 2 (EXDOC Endorsement 1749)
1) A representative sample was inspected and found free of Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata) and Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni), Codling moth (Cydia pomonella), Western flower thrip (Frankliniella occidentalis ) and Light brown apple moth (Epiphyas postvittana),
2) The fruit has been sourced, packed, inspected and secured in the Greater Sunraysia region,
3) Subject to in-transit cold sterilisation.

Option 3 (EXDOC Endorsement 2065)
1) A representative sample was inspected and found free of Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata) and Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni), Codling moth (Cydia pomonella), Western flower thrip (Frankliniella occidentalis) and Light brown apple moth (Epiphyas postvittana), 
2) The produce was sourced, inspected, packaged and secured in Tasmania.

Option 4 (EXDOC Endorsement 3351)
1) A representative sample was inspected and found free of Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata) and Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni), Codling moth (Cydia pomonella), Western flower thrip (Frankliniella occidentalis) and Light brown apple moth (Epiphyas postvittana), 
2) Subject to in-transit cold sterilisation,
3) The fruit in this consignment has been secured against infestation by fruit flies during transport.

Option 5 (EXDOC Endorsement 5947)
1) A representative sample was inspected and found free of Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata) and Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni), Codling moth (Cydia pomonella), Western flower thrip (Frankliniella occidentalis) and Light brown apple moth (Epiphyas postvittana), 
2) The produce was sourced, inspected, packaged and secured in the Riverland Region Pest Free Area.
3) The fruit was neither produced nor packed in the Queensland fruit fly regulated areas.
