Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.


Original and certified translation of the import permit must be presented to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.


The exporter is responsible for ensuring the consignments is accompanied with a Certificate of Origin and ISTA Certificate.

Non-GMO requirements:

If certification is required (refer to import permit/NPPO notification), the exporter is responsible for ensuring that the consignment is accompanied by a Certificate as to Condition attesting that the seed has not been genetically modified.

If requested, a Certificate as to Condition (Grain - GX46/Horticulture - HX46) can be issued for the consignment that is specifically supported from information supplied by the Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) and where it is a government requirement of the importing country for non-GMO certification (refer to import permit/NPPO Notification).

The following text must be added to the additional declaration field when a GX46/HX46 template is added to the RFP:

The Office of the Gene Technology Regulator has advised the department that there has been no intentional release into the Australian environment of genetically modified product(s) listed on this certificate.


Explanation of endorsements

Endorsement 6816:
  • Sorghum ergot (Claviceps sorghi), Sorghum downy mildew (Peronosclerospora sorghi) and Aspergillus rot (Aspergillus ochraceus) are not known to occur in Australia. No evidence is required to endorse freedom from these pests.
  • A laboratory testing certificate or crop inspection is required to endorse freedom from Milo disease of sorghum (Periconia circinata) and Covered kernel smut (Sporisorium sorghi)
  • Visual inspection of a representative sample by an Authorised Officer is sufficient for endorsing freedom from Ergot (Claviceps africana).
Consignments are to be treated with an approved fungicide and / or insecticide at recommended manufacturer's requirements if required by the import permit. Check the import permit for details.

The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

1) Sorghum ergot (Claviceps sorghi), Sorghum downy mildew (Peronosclerospora sorghi) and Aspergillus rot (Aspergillus ochraceus) are not known to occur in Australia,
2) The consignment was found free through official testing and inspection procedures of Milo disease of sorghum (Periconia circinata) and Covered kernel smut (Sporisorium sorghi),
3) A representative sample was inspected and found free of Ergot (Claviceps africana).
