Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.

A copy of the import permit must be presented to an Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.


It is the exporter’s responsibility to ensure that the phytosanitary certificate is issued within 14 days of the consignment being exported from Australia.

Refer to the departure date and inspection date in the Request for Permit.


Where applicable, the exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the endorsement and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.


Explanation of the endorsements

Endorsement 1122:
An area freedom certificate must be presented as evidence to endorse freedom from Lettuce mosaic virus.

Endorsement 7208:
A crop inspection report and a laboratory analysis certificate must be presented as evidence to endorse freedom from Lettuce mosaic virus.

Consignments are to be accompanied by an International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) Orange Certificate. The test report should state the below (check import permit for details):

  • Lot number and quantity
  • Genetic and physical purity of seeds
  • Moisture contents of seed
  • Other seed count (including crop and weed seeds)
  • The sample must be taken by accredited person using ISTA methodology

Consignments are to be accompanied by a Certificate of Origin issued by the Australian Chamber of Commerce and industry.

Note:

  • ISTA Orange Certificate is valid for three months when seeds are stored under ambient conditions.
  • ISTA Orange Certificate is valid for six months when seeds are stored under cold conditions.
  • Seeds must be securely packaged to prevent spillage.
  • Every seed container (package) must bear information on the crop variety and seed treatment if any, name and address of supplier and lot number.
If required by the import permit, seeds must be treated with an appropriate fungicide and insecticide at manufacturer's recommended rate.

The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

Option 1 (EXDOC Endorsement 1122)
1) Lettuce mosaic virus is known not to occur in the area of production.


Option 2 (EXDOC Endorsement 7208)
1) A minimum of 3000 seedlings were grown under officially approved conditions, and a representative sample of a minimum of 5000 seeds were tested and found to be free from Lettuce mosaic virus.
