Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.


These import conditions are applicable to Barley grains for use as stockfeed.

The import conditions are based on general information on Saudi Arabia's import requirements for grain and feed. Exporters should consult with their importers and confirm specific import conditions that apply to their consignment before preparing any goods for export.

Saudi Arabia may require a Health Certificate for grains for stockfeed. If requested by the exporter, a Certificate as to Condition (GX46) may be issued for the consignment stating that "Based on Australian plant health status, barley exported is approved in the country of origin for animal consumption". A manufacturer's declaration attesting that the products are safe for animal consumption and is freely available for sale as stockfeed in Australia must be presented to the Authorised Officer at time of inspection if the exporter is applying for this statement.

Saudi Arabia implemented GSO 2141/2011 "Technical Regulation - General Requirements for Genetically Modified Unprocessed Agricultural Products" such as grains, which calls for biotech labeling if Genetically Engineered contents in grains and feed exceed one percent.

Non-GMO certification

If certification is required (refer to import permit/NPPO notification), the exporter is responsible for ensuring that the consignment is accompanied by a Certificate as to Condition attesting that the consignment has not been genetically modified.

If requested, a Certificate as to Condition (Grain - GX46/Horticulture - HX46) may be issued for the consignment if specifically supported from information supplied by the Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) and where it is a government requirement of the importing country for non-GMO certification (refer to import permit/NPPO Notification).

The following text must be added to the additional declaration field when a GX46/HX46 template is added to the RFP:

The Office of the Gene Technology Regulator has advised the department that there has been no intentional release into the Australian environment of genetically modified product(s) listed on this certificate.
