Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.


The following are classed as fruits (as they develop from a flower) and are subject to the import requirements for fruit: Chillies, Cucumber, Melons, Olives, Pumpkin, Squash and Zucchini.

A copy of the import permit must be presented to an Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.


The original import permit may be withheld by the importer or their agent for presentation and inspection at the port of entry.

Consignments are to be packed in commercial packs in new packaging or cleaned and sanitised containers.

Products must be inspected for fruit fly and other insect infestation to <1%. If live insects are detected, products must undergo reconditioning treatment.
If live fruit fly or other insect infestation is detected to <1%, products must undergo recondition treatment through Methyl bromide fumigation or cold storage.

Reconditioning treatment options:
 
  • Methyl bromide fumigation at 32g/m3 for 2 hours;

OR

  • Cold storage at -8 degrees Celsius for 7 days.
