Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.

A copy of the import permit must be presented to an Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

Consignments are to be packed in clean, new packages/bags not previously used for any purpose.

Products must be inspected for fruit fly and other insect infestation to <1%. If live insects are detected, products are considered to have failed inspection, and must also undergo treatment detailed in the Treatment section below. Consignments cannot be authorised until they have passed inspection by an Authorised Officer.

If live insects are detected during inspection, products must be treated using:
  • Methyl bromide fumigation at 32g per cubic metre for two hours at 21 degrees Celsius
OR
  • Cold storage at -8 degrees Celsius for seven days.
If treatment is done, the products must be inspected after completion by an Authorised Officer, with the treatment certificate provided at the time of inspection. Consignments cannot be authorised unless they have passed inspection by an Authorised Officer.

If no live insects were detected during inspection, no treatment is required.

If treatment is done, details of the treatment to be endorsed in the phytosanitary certificate in the Treatment section.
