Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.

Consignments certified in Australia and issued with a phytosanitarycertificate must be inspected in accordance with official procedure and foundfree of visually detectable New Zealand’s regulated insects and seeds ofregulated weed species listed on MPI’s List for Vicia (http://www.Department of Agriculture.govt.nz/files/ihs/155-02-05-pest-lists.pdf).

The import conditions are applicable to the following Vicia spp only:

  • Vicia cracca
  • Vicia disperma
  • Vicia faba
  • Vicia hirsuta
  • Vicia lathyroides
  • Vicia lutea
  • Vicia narbonensis
  • Vicia sativa
  • Vicia tetrasperma
  • Vicia villosa
Consignments are to be treated either prior to export or on arrival in New Zealand with one of the following fungicide combinations:

  • Metalaxyl-M at 0.35 grm a.i per kg of seed, fludioxonil at 0.1 grm a.i per kg of seed and cymoxanil at 0.2 grm a.i per kg of seed 
OR
  • Fosetyl aluminium at 1.53 grm a.i per kg of seed, thiram at 0.5 grm a.i per kg of seed and thiabendazole at 0.37 grm a.i per kg of seed.

For treatments applied prior to export, the exporter is to provide evidence attesting to treatment and present to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

Treatments applied on arrivial in New Zealand are not to be endorsed on the phytosanitary certificate.

1) Artichoke yellow ringspot virus, Broad bean mottle virus, Broad bean stain virus, Broad bean true mosaic virus, Pea early-browning virus, Pea enation mosaic virus and Peanut stunt virus are not known to occur in Australia.
