Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.


ICR applies to polished, unpolished or kibbled rice, which is packaged (up to 25 kgm bags) for direct retail sale.

Phytosanitary Certificate and treatment is not required for rice originating from Australia, Canada, European Union, Japan or United States.

Rice from any other country requires a re-export Phytosanitary Certificate and treatment.
Treatments only apply to re-exported rice not from Australia, Canada, European Union, Japan or United States.

The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.


If no treatment is selected consignment is subject to inspection and fumigation upon arrival.

Treatment options:

  • Methyl bromide fumigation at either:
    • 48grm/m3 at 10-15 degrees Celsius for 24 hours,
    • 40grm/m3 at 15-20 degrees Celsius for 24 hours,
    • 32grm/m3 at 20-25 degrees Celsius for 24 hours.
OR

  • Phosphine fumigation at 2grm/m3 for either: 
    • 12 days at 16-20 degrees Celsius,
    • 9 days at 21-25 degrees Celsius,
    • 5 days at 26 degrees Celsius or greater.
