Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.


Import permit not required, unless seeds are to be grown in post entry quarantine.

A copy of the import permit must be presented to an Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

The full scientific name of the Petunia species and variety must be specified on the phytosanitary certificate.

GM Testing Requirements: 

Consignments must be accompanied by either:

  • A non-GM declaration signed by the exporter and importer declaring the consignment does not contain genetically modified seeds.
OR
  • A genetically modified testing certificate specifying the samples from each lot, representatively sampled, tested and found to be free of unapproved GM seed according to the MPI Protocol for Testing for the presence of GM Plant Material. Every lot tested must be specified on the testing certificate. 

Explanation of the endorsements

Endorsement 7669:
  • An area freedom certificate must be presented as evidence of freedom from Potato spindle tuber viroid and Tomato chlorotic dwarf viroid.
Endorsement 7670:
  • A place of production freedom certificate must be presented as evidence of freedom from Potato spindle tuber viroid and Tomato chlorotic dwarf viroid.

Endorsement 7671:

  • A laboratory analysis certificate must be presented as evidence of freedom from Potato spindle tuber viroid and Tomato chlorotic dwarf viroid.

Option 1 (EXDOC Endorsement 7669)
1) The seeds in this consignment have been produced in a 'pest free area' free from Potato spindle tuber viroid and Tomato chlorotic dwarf viroid.

Option 2 (EXDOC Endorsement 7670)
1) The seeds in this consignment have been produced in a 'pest free place of production' free from Potato spindle tuber viroid and Tomato chlorotic dwarf viroid.

Option 3 (EXDOC Endorsement 7671)
1) The seeds in this consignment have been officially tested, on a representative sample of a minimum of 3000 seeds officially drawn according to the ISTA or AOSA sampling methodology using a NPPO approved PCR testing method, and found to be free from Potato spindle tuber viroid and Tomato chlorotic dwarf viroid.
