Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.


Seed listed in the Plant Biosecurity Index as "Basic" can be exported with or without a phytosanitary certificate.

Option 1: Seed with a phytosanitary certificate

For consignments certified in Australia and issued with a phytosanitary certificate:
- inspected in accordance with official procedure and found free of visually detectable regulated pests of New Zealand, and conforms to New Zealand's import requirements.

Option 2: Seed without a Phytosanitary certificate

On arrival in New Zealand the consignment or samples, drawn in accordance with approved sampling rules, are to be inspected by an inspector at the importer's expense.

Note: The import conditions are applicable only to seeds for sowing listed in the Plant Biosecurity Index as "Basic" and no import conditions are available under the Import Health Standards: 155.02.05 Import of Seeds for Sowing.

Note: New Zealand requires complete scientific name (genus and species) on the phytosanitary certificate. The exporter must specify the complete scientific name (genus and species) when raising a RFP.
