Note: Lasioptera murtfeldtiana is a synonym of Neolasioptera helianthi.

Explanation of the endorsements

Endorsement 8081:
  • A pest free area statement from the state government or a place of production freedom declaration from the state government, grower or a third party crop monitor must be presented as evidence to endorse freedom from Sunflower mosaic virus and Downy mildew of sunflower (Plasmopara halstedii).
  • A crop inspection report is required to endorse freedom from Alternaria leaf spot of sunflowers (Alternaria helianthi) and Gall midge (Neolasioptera helianthi).
Endorsement 8082:
  • A pest free area statement from the state government or a place of production freedom declaration from the state government, grower or a third party crop monitor must be presented as evidence to endorse freedom from Sunflower mosaic virus and Downy mildew of sunflower (Plasmopara halstedii).
  • A crop inspection report is required to endorse freedom from Gall midge (Neolasioptera helianthi).
  • A laboratory analysis certificate is required for endorsing that 600 pure seeds were drawn and tested in accordance with the general directions for seed health testing in the current International Rules for Seed Testing and no evidence of contamination with Alternaria leaf spot of sunflowers (Alternaria helianthi) was found.
Consignments are to be treated with an one of the following fungicide combinations:

  • Metalaxyl at 0.7g a.i. per kg seed and captan at 0.7g a.i. per kg seed; 

OR

  • Metalaxyl at 0.7g a.i. per kg seed and thiram at 1g a.i. per kg seed.

The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

Seed for sowing that does not meet the requirements of the NZ Ministry for Primary Industries import health standard will not be given Department of Agriculture clearance on arrival in New Zealand. Seed requiring treatment may be imported into New Zealand untreated but will not be given Department of Agriculture clearance until an approved treatment has been applied.
Option 1 (EXDOC Endorsement 8081)
1) The Helianthus seeds have been produced in an area where Sunflower mosaic virus and Downy mildew of sunflower (Plasmopara halstedii) are absent,
2) The Helianthus seeds have been produced in a crop that has been inspected during the growing season according to appropriate procedures and no Alternaria leaf spot of sunflowers (Alternaria helianthi) and Gall midge (Neolasioptera helianthi) was detected.

Option 2 (EXDOC Endorsement 8082)
1) The Helianthus seeds have been produced in an area where Sunflower mosaic virus and Downy mildew of sunflower (Plasmopara halstedii) are absent,
2) The Helianthus seeds have been produced in a crop that has been inspected during the growing season according to appropriate procedures and no Gall midge (Neolasioptera helianthi) was detected,
3) The Helianthus seeds have had 600 pure seeds drawn and tested in accordance with the general directions for seed health testing in the current International Rules for Seed Testing and no evidence of contamination with Alternaria leaf spot of sunflowers (Alternaria helianthi) was found.
