Consignments must meet the requirements of the Export Plan for fresh produce from Australia to New Zealand. The Export Plan is available through Micor Plants in the 'Documents' section. Access is restricted and requires a logon.
Exporters may choose to use the following contaminant tolerances during phytosanitary inspection as referred to in the Import Health Standard 152.02. The permitted tolerances are for a 600-unit sample.
- 25g of soil
- 12 leaves
- 8 regulated weed seeds
All grapes exported to New Zealand must:
- be treated for Latrodectus hasselti (Australian redback spider) using forced air fumigation with a mixture of Sulphur Dioxide (1%) and Carbon Dioxide (6%) for 30 minutes at 180C or above;
AND
Have had a measure applied for Maconellicoccus hirsutus (Pink hibiscus mealybug) of either:
- in-field controls (at an accredited property);
OR
- irradiation at a minimum dose of 289 Gy;
OR
- being sourced from a pest free area (NSW, VIC, SA, WA, TAS)
AND
Have had a measure applied for Conogethes punctiferalis (Yellow peach moth) of either:
- in-field controls (at an accredited property);
OR
- irradiation at a minimum dose of 289 Gy
AND
Have had a measure applied for fruit flies of either:
- pest free area (Riverland, TAS);
OR
- irradiation at a minimum dose of 150 Gy;
OR
Cold treatment (onshore or in-transit) at:
- 0oC or below for 13 days;
OR
- 1oC +/- 0.6oC or below for 16 days
If irradiating for other regulated pests then treat the consignment by irradiation at a minimum dose of 400 Gy or 500 Gy.
Explanation of the endorsements
Explanations of EXDOC endorsement(s), and supporting documents required for each endorsement are detailed in the 'Documents' section of Micor.
All treatments shall be carried out in accordance with the Export Plan.
(SO2/CO2 fumigation excluded).
SO2/CO2 fumigation
All grapes exported to New Zealand must be treated using a mixture of Sulphur Dioxide (1%) and Carbon Dioxide (6%) for 30 minutes (treatment details endorsed in the additional declaration).
Cold treatment
Onshore prior to export at:
- 0 °C or below for 13 days,
OR
- 1 °C (+/- 0.6 °C) or below for 16 days
Onshore cold treatment is to be shown on the Phytosanitary certificate as:
- COLD TREATED AT 0 DEGREE CELSIUS OR BELOW FOR 13 DAYS;
OR
- COLD TREATED AT 1 DEGREE CELSIUS (+/- 0.6 DEGREES CELSIUS) FOR 16 DAYS.
OR
In-transit cold treatment completed before the consignment arrives in New Zealand:
- 0 °C or below for 13 days,
OR
- 1 °C (+/- 0.6 °C) or below for 16 days
The proposed in-transit treatment schedule is to be shown on the Phytosanitary certificate as follows:
- SUBJECT TO IN-TRANSIT COLD DISINFESTATION TREATMENT AT 0 DEGREES CELSIUS OR BELOW FOR 13 DAYS;
OR
- SUBJECT TO IN-TRANSIT COLD DISINFESTATION TREATMENT AT 1 DEGREE CELSIUS (+/- 0.6 DEGREES CELSIUS) FOR 16 DAYS
On the RFP select the treatment code 'INTRAN' and insert the selected treatment schedule as above in the details section. The date in which the container has been sealed is to be entered into the Start and End Date fields (same date into both fields).
Important: If the fruit temperature sensors have been calibrated to zero, an ITCT calibration certificate is not required.
If the fruit temperature sensors have not been calibrated to zero, the exporter is responsible for obtaining an ITCT calibration certificate from the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment to provide to New Zealand MPI.
Irradiation
- Irradiation at a minimum of 150 Gy
- Irradiation at a minimum of 289 Gy
- Irradiation at a minimum of 400 Gy
- Irradiation at a minimum of 500 Gy
For irradiated product, the treatment is to be shown on the phytosanitary certificate as:
- IRRADIATION AT MINIMUM 150 GRAY;
OR
- IRRADIATION AT MINIMUM 289 GRAY;
OR
- IRRADIATION AT MINIMUM 400 GRAY;
OR
- IRRADIATION AT MINIMUM 500 GRAY
Reconditioning treatments with methyl bromide must be conducted in accordance with the Acceptance of offshore methyl bromide fumigation treatments, found in the documents section of Micor.
For reconditioning fumigation treatments to be recognised by New Zealand, they must be listed on the phytosanitary certificate in the treatment section using the EXDOC treatment code RE-CON.
It is at the exporter's discretion on whether or not to put a reconditioning treatment on the phytosanitary certificate.
