Import Permit Requirements

Permits are required for produce from all markets, except for re-exports originating from New Zealand. 

Requirements for country-of-origin phytosanitary certificates

The phytosanitary certificate from the country of origin, or a certified copy of the phytosanitary certificate from the country of origin, must be presented to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

The phytosanitary certificate must contain endorsements that demonstrate that the fresh produce has met the general requirements for all fruit and fruit genera specific requirements (when required). See New Caledonia's general rules and specific requirements below.

Note: It is strongly advised that you contact the Horticulture Exports Program prior to re-exporting fruit to New Caledonia. This is to ensure that the phytosanitary certificate, from the country of origin, has the required endorsements.

General requirements for all fresh fruit (including fruit vegetables such as Cucurbitaceae and Solanaceae):

 All fruit must be treated or sourced from an area of origin free from the following fruit flies:

  • Bactrocera cucurbitae

  • Bactrocera dorsalis complex

  • Ceratitis capitata

  • Anastrepha spp

  • Other fruit flies of economic importance.

Additional rules for specific fruit genera:

The following genera of fruits must also be treated or sourced from an area free from Drosophila suzukii:
  • Rubus sp
  • Prunus sp
  • Fragaria sp
  • Vaccinium sp
  • Ribes sp
  • Morus sp
  • Actinidia sp
  • Myrica sp
  • Elaeagnus sp
  • Cornus sp
  • Phytolacca sp.
Citrus must be sourced from an area of origin free from: 
  • Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. citri
Annonaceae must be sourced from an area free from:
  • Bephratelloides cubensis 
Avocadoes must be grown in orchards recognised by NPPO as free from:
  • Avocado sunblotch viroid
Mangoes must be sourced from an area of origin free from:
  • Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. mangiferaeindicae
Tomatoes:
  •  must have stalks removed.
Pineapples:
  • must have crowns removed.
Passion fruits must be sourced from an area of origin free from:
  • Pseudomonas syringae pv. pasiflorae
  • Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. passiflorae

Lychee must be sourced from an area of origin free from:
  • Aceria litchi (also known as Peronophythophtora litchi).
