Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.


Packages must be free of soil, plant material or animal material.

Fruit must be free from live fruit flies, scale, mealy bugs and mites.


Explanation of fruit fly pest free areas (PFAs)

The following areas are recognised as pest free areas for Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni) and Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata):

  •              Tasmania
AND
Exporters sourcing fruit from the Riverland must present a State government certificate at the time of inspection which states all fruit was sourced from properties outside the suspension areas.


Explanation of the endorsements

Endorsement 2959:
Applies to consignments that originate from Tasmania or the Riverland region (excluding suspension area/s).

Endorsement 2727:
Applies to consignments that have been subject to a treatment for fruit fly eggs and larvae.
 

Citrus canker (Xanthomonas citris subsp. citri) is absent from Australia. No certification is required for citrus originating from Australia.
 
Where applicable, the exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the endorsement and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

Fruit sourced from a non–fruit fly pest free area must be treated against fruit flies either by cold or fumigation treatment. Endorsement option 2 applies if fruit is treated.

The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

Cold treatment:

Cold treatment must be performed on-shore in Australia. The applicable rates are:

  • At or below 0.00 degrees Celsius for 13 days;

OR

  • At or below 0.55 degrees Celsius for 14 days;

OR

  • At or below 1.11 degrees Celsius for 18 days;

OR

  • At or below 1.66 degrees Celsius for 20 days;

OR

  • At or below 2.22 degrees Celsius for 22 days.

Methyl bromide fumigation:

Methyl bromide fumigation must be conducted in Australia prior to export. Treatment is to occur at the following rates, or an equivalent rate:

  • At 32 grm/m3 at 21 degrees Celsius for 4 hours;

OR

  • At 32 grm/m3 at 21 degrees Celsius for 2 hours plus 7 days cold storage at 7.2 degrees Celsius.
Option 1 (EXDOC Endorsement 2959)
1) Citrus canker (Xanthomonas axonopodis pv citri), Melon fly (Bactrocera cucurbitae), Oriental fruit fly (Bactrocera dorsalis), Suzukii fly (Drosophila suzukii) and fruit flies of the genera Anastrepha spp are known not to occur in Australia,
2) Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata) and other fruits flies of economic importance to New Caledonia are known not to occur in the area of production.

Option 2 (EXDOC Endorsement 2727)
1) Citrus canker (Xanthomonas axonopodis pv citri) is known not to occur in Australia,
2) Treatment known to be effective for the destruction of fruit fly eggs and larvae has been applied.
