Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.


Packages must be free of litter, soil, leaves, compost or any other prohibited organic material.

The New Caledonian NPPO has confirmed that an import permit  is required for any species of hay (grasses and legumes) to be used as stockfeed.

A copy of the import permit must be presented to an Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

If required by the import permit, consignments of Lucerne hay must be treated with:


Methyl bromide

  • 48 grm/m3 for 24 hours at 21 degrees Celsius or above,
OR
  • 56 grm/m3 for 24 hours between 16 and 20 degrees Celsius,
OR
  • 64 grm/m3 for 24 hours between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius.
OR
An appropriate treatment ensuring the absence of live insects and viable seeds. 

If requirement by the import permit, consignments of Oaten hay must be treated with:
  • An appropriate treatment ensuring the absence of live insects, fungal diseases and viable seeds. 
The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.
