Packages must be free of soil, plant material or animal material.
 
Fruit must be free from live fruit flies, scale, mealy bugs and mites.

Explanation of fruit fly pest free areas (PFAs)

The following areas are recognised as pest free areas for Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni) and Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata):

  •              Tasmania
AND
Exporters sourcing fruit from the Riverland must present a State government certificate at the time of inspection which states all fruit was sourced from properties outside the suspension areas.

Explanation of the endorsements

Endorsement 2735:

Applies to consignments that originate from Tasmania or the Riverland region (excluding suspension area/s).

Endorsement 2736:

Applies to consignments that have been subject to a treatment for fruit fly eggs and larvae.
 
Where applicable, the exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the endorsement and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

Fruit sourced from a non–fruit fly pest free area must be treated against fruit flies either by cold disinfestation or fumigation.

Cold treatment must be performed on-shore (in Australia). The applicable rates are:

  • 13 days at 0.00 degrees Celsius or below;

OR

  • 14 days at 0.55 degrees Celsius or below;

OR

  • 18 days at 1.11 degrees Celsius or below;

OR

  • 20 days at 1.66 degrees Celsius or below;

OR

  • 22 days at 2.22 degrees Celsius or below.

Cold treatment which is undertaken on-shore must be certified on the phytosanitary certificate in the treatment section.

Methyl bromide fumigation treatment (performed in Australia prior to export). Methyl bromide fumigation is to occur at the below rates, or an equivalent rate:

  • 32 grm/m3 at 21 degrees Celsius for 4 hours;

OR

  • 32 grm/m3 at 21 degrees Celsius for 2 hours plus 7 days cold storage at 7.2 degrees Celsius.

 

The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

Option 1 (EXDOC Endorsement 2735) 
1) Soursop seed borer (Bephratelloides cubensis), Melon fly (Bactrocera cucurbitae), Oriental fruit fly (Bactrocera dorsalis), Suzukii fly (Drosophila suzukii) and fruit flies of the genera Anastrepha spp are known not to occur in Australia,
2) Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata) and other fruits flies of economic importance to New Caledonia are known not to occur in the area of production.

Option 2 (EXDOC Endorsement 2736)
1) Soursop seed borer (Bephratelloides cubensis) is known not to occur in Australia,
2) Treatment known to be effective for the destruction of fruit fly eggs and larvae.
