Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.

Packages must be free of soil, plant material or animal material.

Fruit must be free from live fruit flies and Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus (ToBRFV).

Explanation of fruit fly pest free areas (PFAs)

The following areas are recognised as pest free areas for Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni) and Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata):

  • Tasmania
AND
  • The Riverland region of South Australia, excluding Queensland fruit fly suspension areas. Suspension areas can be found on the South Australian Department of Primary Industries and Regions fruit fly outbreak map. Fruit sourced from a Queensland fruit fly suspension area must undergo phytosanitary treatment, as outlined under ‘Treatment’.
Exporters sourcing fruit from the Riverland must present a State government certificate at the time of inspection which states all fruit was sourced from properties outside the suspension areas.

Explanation of the endorsements

Endorsement 7975:
Applies to consignments with produce that originate from Tasmania or the Riverland region (excluding suspension area/s).

Evidence of freedom from ToBRFV.

Endorsement 7976:
Applies to consignments that have been subject to a treatment for fruit fly eggs and larvae.
 
Evidence of freedom from ToBRFV.

Freedom from ToBRFV

Acceptable evidence attesting to the production area freedom from ToBRFV are as follows:

  • Pest free Area certificate, certified by the relevant state or territory government.
OR
  • Official crop survey, verified by the relevant state or territory government.

The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the endorsement and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

Fruit sourced from a non–fruit fly pest free area must be treated against fruit flies either by cold or fumigation treatment. Endorsement option 2 applies if fruit is treated.


The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

Cold Treatment
 
Cold treatment must be performed on-shore in Australia. The applicable rates are:

0.0°C for 10 days 

OR

≤0.5°C for 11 days

OR

≤1.1°C for 12 days

OR

≤ 1.66 for 14 days

OR

≤ 2.22 for 16 days

OR

< or = 3°C for 20 days

Methyl Bromide

Methyl bromide fumigation must be conducted in Australia prior to export. Treatment is to occur at the following rates, or an equivalent rate:

48 grs/m3/4 hrs at 10°C-15°C

OR

40 grs/m3/4 hrs at 16°C-20°C

OR

32 grs/m3/4 hrs at 21°C-25°C

Option 1 (EXDOC Endorsement 7975)
1) Area of origin free from Bactrocera cucurbitae, fruits flies of dorsalis complex, Ceratitis capitata and fruit flies genus Anastrepha spp or other fruits flies of economic importance,
2) Area of production free from Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus.

Option 2 (EXDOC Endorsement 7976)
1) Treatment known to be effective for the destruction of all fruit fly eggs and larvae (heat, cold, fumigation),
2) Area of production free from Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus.
