Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.

Packages must be free of soil, plant material or animal material.

Fruit must be free from live fruit flies, scale, mealy bugs and mites.

Explanation of fruit fly pest free areas (PFAs)

The following areas are recognised as pest free areas for Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni) and Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata):

  •              Tasmania
AND
Exporters sourcing fruit from the Riverland must present a State government certificate at the time of inspection which states all fruit was sourced from properties outside the suspension areas.
 
Explanation of the endorsements
 
Endorsement 1515:

Applies to consignments that originate from Tasmania or the Riverland region (excluding suspension area/s).
 
Endorsement 2730:

Applies to consignments that have been subject to a treatment for fruit fly eggs and larvae.
Where applicable, the exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the endorsement and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

Fruit sourced from a non–fruit fly pest free area must be treated against fruit flies either by cold or fumigation treatment.

The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

Cold treatment

Cold treatment must be performed on-shore in Australia. The applicable rates are:

  • 13 days at 0.00 degrees Celsius or below;

OR

  • 14 days at 0.55 degrees Celsius or below;

OR

  • 18 days at 1.11 degrees Celsius or below;

OR

  • 20 days at 1.66 degrees Celsius or below;

OR

  • 22 days at 2.22 degrees Celsius or below.


Methyl bromide fumigation

Methyl bromide fumigation must be conducted in Australia prior to export. Treatment is to occur at the following rates, or an equivalent rate:

  • 32 grm/m3 at 21 degrees Celsius for 4 hours;

OR

  • 32 grm/m3 at 21 degrees Celsius for 2 hours plus 7 days cold storage at 7.2 degrees Celsius.
Option 1 (EXDOC Endorsement 1515)
1) Melon fly (Bactrocera cucurbitae), Oriental fruit fly (Bactrocera dorsalis), Suzukii fly (Drosophila suzukii) and fruit flies of the genera Anastrepha spp are known not to occur in Australia,
2) Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata) and other fruits flies of economic importance to New Caledonia are known not to occur in the area of production,
3) Avocado sunblotch viroid is known not to occur in the orchard of production. 
 
Option 2 (EXDOC Endorsement 2730)
1) Treatment known to be effective for the destruction of fruit fly eggs and larvae,
2) Avocado sunblotch viroid is known not to occur in the orchard of production.
