Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.
A copy of the import permit must be presented to an Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.
Where applicable, the exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the endorsement and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.
Consignments are to be packed in clean, new packages/bags not previously used for any purpose.

Materials used to protect, package and ship whole plants must be inert/synthetic only.

Consignment must be clearly labelled with its full botanical name (genus and species).

All plants in the consignment are to be officially inspected and found free of any visually detectable regulated pests.

If visually detectable pests are found which are not listed in the Biosecurity New Zealand import health standard, the pest's regulatory status must be established prior to certification.

Note:

  • This case is applicable to whole plants exported without a pest freedom additional declaration for Puccinia psidii sensu lato complex (including Uredo rangelii).
  • Plants are subject to Post Entry Quarantine Level 3B for a minimum of 6 months under point 3.106.2 of Schedule Metrosideros.

All plants must be treated for insects and mites as Appendix 3 of the Ministry of Primary Industries Standard 155.02.06: Importation Health Standard: Plants for Planting (published on the MPI web site).

Plants which have been raised in media containing soil must have the roots of the plants dipped in Fenamiphos at 1.6g a.i. per litre of water for 30 minutes

The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the department at time of authorisation.
Details of treatment to be endorsed on the phytosanitary certificate in the treatment section.

If any required treatment is not completed within the prescribed period prior to export, these measures must be completed in New Zealand where such services are available, and by prior arrangement with MPI.

Explanation of endorsements:

Endorsement 8482:

  • Applies to plants raised in soil -less media.

Endorsement 8483:

  • Applies to plants raised in media containing soil.

Option 1 (EXDOC Endorsement 8482)
1) The plants were raised from seed/cuttings in soil-less rooting media in containers maintained out of contact with the soil.
2) The plants have been produced in a state free from Ceratocystis fimbriata sensu lato complex (strains not in New Zealand) or from a Pest Free Place of Production free from Ceratocystis fimbriata sensu lato complex (strains not in New Zealand).
3) The plants have only been grown in, and exported from, the country of origin, Australia, which is free from Xylella fastidiosa.

Option 2 (EXDOC Endorsement 8483)
1) The roots of the plants have been dipped in Fenamiphos at 1.6g a.i. per litre of water for 30 minutes.
2) The plants have been produced in a state free from Ceratocystis fimbriata sensu lato complex (strains not in New Zealand) or from a Pest Free Place of Production free from Ceratocystis fimbriata sensu lato complex (strains not in New Zealand).
3) The plants have only been grown in, and exported from, the country of origin, Australia, which is free from Xylella fastidiosa.
