Original and certified translation of the import permit must be presented to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.


Explanation of fruit fly pest free areas (PFAs)

The following areas are recognised as pest free areas for Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni) and Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata):

  •              Tasmania
AND
Exporters sourcing fruit from the Riverland must present a State government certificate at the time of inspection which states all fruit was sourced from properties outside the suspension areas.

Fruit sourced from these areas are not required to undergo treatment.

All States and territories of Australia, except Western Australia, are free from Mediterranean fruit fly.

Western Australia is recognised as being free from Queensland fruit fly.

Explanation of the Endorsements

Endorsement 1486:

Applies to consignments that originate from Tasmania or the Riverland (excluding suspension area/s).

Endorsement 1488:

Applies to consignments with fruit sourced from all States (except for Western Australia).

Endorsement 1503:

Applies to consignments with fruit sourced from Western Australia.
Consignments sourced from outside a fruit fly PFA must undergo an appropriate treatment for Queensland fruit fly or Mediterranean fruit fly before export.

Cold Treatment:

Cold treatment must be conducted and completed in Australia prior to loading (on shore).

Cold treatment for Queensland fruit fly (not permitted for fruit sourced from WA):

  • 3 degrees Celsius, or below, for 14 days.

Cold treatment for Mediterranean fruit fly (permitted for fruit sourced from all States):

  • 3 degrees Celsius, or below, for 20 days;

OR

  • 2.22 degrees Celsius, or below, for 18 days;

OR

  • 1.67 degrees Celsius, or below, for 16 days;

OR

  • 1.11 degrees Celsius, or below, for 14 days.

Methyl bromide fumigation followed by onshore cold treatment:
This combination treatment must be conducted within the same treatment facility prior to export (permitted for fruit sourced from all States). The following treatment parameters apply:

  • Fumigation with Methyl bromide at 32g/m3 for 2 hours at a pulp temperature of 21 degrees Celsius or above at no more than 50 per cent chamber load, followed by onshore cold treatment at 2.77 degrees Celsius or lower for 4 days;

OR

  • Fumigation with Methyl bromide at 32g/m3 for 2.5 hours at a pulp temperature of 21 degrees Celsius or above at no more than 50 per cent chamber load, followed by onshore cold treatment at 4.44 degrees Celsius or lower for 4 days;

OR

  • Fumigation with methyl bromide at 32g/m3 for 3 hours at a pulp temperature of 21 degrees Celsius or above at no more than 50 per cent chamber load, followed by an onshore cold treatment at 8.33 degrees Celsius or lower for 3 days.

The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

Option 1 (EXDOC Endorsement 1486)
1) The fruit in this consignment was produced in Tasmania or the Riverland which are recognised as free from Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni) and Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata).

Option 2 (EXDOC Endorsement 1488)
1) The fruit in this consignment was produced in an area unaffected by Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata).
2) The consignment has been treated with an appropriate disinfestation treatment for Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni).

Option 3 (EXDOC Endorsement 1503)
1) The fruit in this consignment was produced in an area unaffected by Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni).
2) The consignment has been treated with an appropriate disinfestation treatment for Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata).
