If an import permit (import authorisation) is issued, a copy of the import permit and an English translation must be presented to the Authorised Officer at the time of making an appointment for inspection. 

Consignments are to be free from the quarantine pests listed in Annex II of the Order No 593-17 dated August 2017 and any other pests listed on the import permit (import authorisation).

Order No 593-17 for Medicago sativa seed for sowing requires freedom from a range of insects pests. Following supporting evidence is required to endorse freedom from these pests:

  • Insects and mites – Visual inspection of a representative sample by an Authorised Officer.
  • A laboratory analysis certificate, a crop inspection report or an area freedom certificate for Stem and bulb nematode (Ditylenchus dipsaci) and Bacterial wilt (Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. insidiosus).
  • Other pests listed in Annex II of the Order No 593-17 dated August 2017 were found to be not on the export pathway for Medicago sativa seed (Richardsons 1994) or not known to occur in Australia.

Explanation of the endorsements

Endorsement 3132:

  • Consignments are to be free from the quarantine pests listed in Annex II of the Order No 593-17 dated August 2017.
  • A laboratory analysis certificate, a crop inspection report or an area freedom certificate is required for Stem and bulb nematode (Ditylenchus dipsaci) and Bacterial wilt (Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. insidiosus).

Endorsement 6129:

  • Consignments are to be free from the quarantine pests listed in Annex II of the Order No 593-17 dated August 2017.
  • A laboratory analysis certificate, a crop inspection report or an area freedom certificate is required for Stem and bulb nematode (Ditylenchus dipsaci) and Bacterial wilt (Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. insidiosus).
  • Visual inspection by an Authorised Officer is sufficient to endorse freedom from Dodder (Cuscuta spp).
Where applicable, the exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the endorsement and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

The consignment must be exported within 14 days of inspection and a phytosanitary certificate must be issued within 14 days of the consignment being exported from Australia.

Option 1 (EXDOC Endorsement 3132)
1) The lucerne seeds comply with the requirements of Chapter II: ART. 14. II of decree No. 593-17 of 15 kaada 1438 (8 August 2017) relating to the sanitary inspection of plants, plant products and other items of import.

Option 2 (EXDOC Endorsement 6129)
1) The lucerne seeds comply with the requirements of Chapter II: ART. 14. II of decree No. 593-17 of 15 kaada 1438 (8 August 2017) relating to the sanitary inspection of plants, plant products and other items of import.
2) A representative sample of the seeds has been tested and found free from Stem and bulb nematode (Ditylenchus dipsaci) and Bacterial wilt (Clavibacter michiganensis subsp insidiosus).
3) A representative sample was inspected and found free of Dodder (Cuscuta spp).

Order of the Minister of Agriculture, Marine Fisheries, Rural development, Water and Forests No 593-17 dated August 2017 and import permits dated 1 October 2019, 5 February 2020 and 24 August 2026.
