Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material, including mudclay.

Original and certified translation of the import permit must be presented to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.
Where applicable, the exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the endorsement and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.
Chaff must be be chopped.
 
Import permits may require consignments to be accompanied with a Veterinary Health Certificate. Exporters must contact the Grain and Seed Exports Program (Grain.Export@aff.gov.au) prior to export for advice about obtaining a Veterinary Health Certificate.

Consignments are to be treated with methyl bromide at 48 grm/m3 at 21 degrees Celsius (or above) for 24 hours at normal atmospheric pressure;

OR

The Mauritius NPPO accepts the following dosage compensation for methyl bromide fumigation applied at temperatures between 11 and 20 degrees Celsius: 
 

  • 56 grm/m3 at 16-20 degrees Celsius for 24 hours;

OR

  • 64 grm/m3 at 11-15 degrees Celsius for 24 hours.

Note: 

  • Methyl bromide fumigation is not permitted at temperatures of below 10 degrees Celsius.
  • Dosage compensation is not permitted for temperatures above 21 degrees Celsius.
The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

Option 1 (EXDOC Endorsement 4007)
1) Pierce's disease (Xylella fastidiosa) is not known to occur in Australia,
2) The crop was inspected during active growth and found free from Alfalfa bacterial wilt (Clavibacter michiganensis subsp insidiosus), Crown gall (Agrobacterium tumefaciens) and Stem nematode (Ditylenchus dipsaci).

Option 2 (EXDOC Endorsement 4548)
1) Pierce's disease (Xylella fastidiosa) is not known to occur in Australia,
2) Alfalfa bacterial wilt (Clavibacter michiganensis subsp insidiosus), Crown gall (Agrobacterium tumefaciens) and Stem nematode (Ditylenchus dipsaci) are known not to occur in the area of production.

Option 3 (EXDOC Endorsement 1120)
1) A representative sample was found free through laboratory testing of Bacterial wilt of Alfalfa  (Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. insidiosus), Crown gall (Agrobacterium tumefaciens) and Stem nematode (Ditylenchus dipsaci).

Import permit dated 30 July 2014. Advice from NPPO received on 13 August 2026.
