Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.


An import permit issued by the Department of Agriculture, Sarawak, Malaysia may be required for export to East Malaysia. If so, a phytosanitary certificate may be issued if required by the import permit, and a copy of the import permit must be presented to an Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

Explanation of the endorsements

Endorsement 1164:
  • Only applicable if the import permit specifically states that the consignment must be free from Khapra beetle (Trogoderma granarium).
  • Khapra beetle (Trogoderma granarium) is known not to occur in Australia. No evidence is required to endorse freedom from this pest.

Note:

  • Mung beans are a prescribed good. For consignments greater than 10 kg in weight an inspection by an Authorised Officer and the issuance of an export permit will be required.
  • The Malaysian Department of Agriculture Sarawak has confirmed that import permits issued by DOA Sarawak should notindicate freedom from 'coffee bean beetle'; if freedom from this pest is listed on the import permit, it can be ignored.

If packing material is made of gunny/jute, the consignment must be fumigated with:

  • Methyl bromide at 48g/m3 for 24 hours;

OR

  • Phosphine at 2g/m3 for 72 hours.

The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

Current Malaysian DOA regulations and confirmed with GEP May 2015, import permits from Department of Agriculture, Sarawak (East Malaysia) dated 1 December 2020 and 25 January 2023, confirmation from NPPO representative dated 17 February 2023.
