This is a protocol market, growers/orchards, packhouses (if packed in a pack house) and treatment facilities must meet the requirements outlined in the workplan and be accredited by the department. Only fruit sourced and/or treated from accredited properties will be certified.

Protocols and workplans are available through MICoR Plants in the "Documents" section. Access is restricted and requires a logon.

Korea's Special Act on Imported Food Safety Management requires all foreign food establishments that produce, manufacture, process, treat and/or store food or plant products, including fresh fruit and vegetables for human consumption, intended for export to Korea to complete a web-based (http://impfood.mfds.go.kr/) registration process.

A foreign food facility as described in the Special Act on Imported Food Safety Management for fresh fruits and vegetables includes growers, packaging and treatment facilities (registered export establishments), etc.

Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.


All consignments must be free from Greeneria uvicola and Epiphyas postvittana.

All facilities undertaking cold treatment (onshore) of table grapes for export to Korea are required to be a registered establishment.

Explanation of fruit fly pest free areas (PFAs)

The following areas are recognised as pest free areas for Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni) and Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata):

  •              Tasmania

AND

Exporters sourcing fruit from the Riverland must present a State government certificate at the time of inspection which states all fruit was sourced from properties outside the suspension areas.



A 600 unit sample will be inspected prior to export. 
 
Each pallet must have the words "FOR KOREA" in English printed/stencilled on all four sides of the pallet.
 
Note: 
  • Details of accredited vineyard are to be entered in the "Shipping marks" section of the EXDOC Request for Permit (RFP) as VINEYARD: TGXXX-TXX  (depending on registration number format applicable to the block).
  • If table grapes are packed in a packhouse then the accredited packhouse number must appear on the carton label and in the additional product description field on the RFP as listed in the accreditation (e.g. PACKHOUSE NO: TGXXX-PXX). To enable the field on the RFP the exporter must submit a request to the EXDOC Plant Programs via email (EXDOCPlantPrograms@aff.gov.au).
  • The name and number of the registered establishment where onshore cold treatment was conducted must be entered in the "lot number" field of the RFP and be in the example format of: COLD TREATMENT AT ABC / XXXX.
Explanation of Endorsements

Endorsement 563:

Applies for fruit sourced and packed from the Riverland which is recognised as a fruit fly PFA.

Endorsement 572:

Applies to fruit sourced from the Tasmania which is recognised as a fruit fly PFA.

Endorsement 1421:

Applies to consignments cold treated onshore.

Endorsements 2666, 2667 or 2668:

Applies to consignments exported subject to in-transit cold treatment.
Cold treatment against quarantine fruit flies is mandatory for all grapes exported from Australia which were produced outside a recognised fruit fly pest free area.

Exporters have the option to carry out cold treatment onshore immediately prior to export or in-transit (which must be completed before the consignment arrives in Korea) in accordance with the following treatment schedule:
  • The fruit core temperature must be held at 1 degrees C or below for a duration of 16 days or more,

OR

  • The fruit core temperature must be held at 2 degrees C or below for a duration of 18 days or more;

OR

  • The fruit core temperature must be held at  3 degrees C or below for a duration of 20 days or more.

The fruit core temperature must be lowered to current Korean requirements through pre-cooling prior to loading of the container.

During loading, it is the exporter’s responsibility to ensure temperatures are maintained as close as possible to the target treatment temperature while sensors are being placed in the fruit.
 
The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.


The onshore cold treatment temperature data (report) must be endorsed by the Authorised Officer (with the appropriate job function) to confirm that the treatment has been successful.

Documentation requirements:

  • For onshore cold treatment the exporter is responsible to ensure that each consignment is accompanied with the onshore cold treatment record (endorsed by the Authorised officer - signed and dated) and calibration and re-calibration certificate (endorsed by the department) as required by the protocol.
  • OSCT calibration and re-calibration certificate must be requested by the exporter at certification prior to export.
If the consignment has been cold treated onshore, the treatment temperature and duration must be endorsed into the COLD TREATMENT section of the phytosanitary certificate by selecting "COLD" and adding the treatment schedule as stated in the relevant additional declaration.

Details of treatment to be endorsed on the Phytosanitary certificate in the treatment section:

  • Treatment code as: “COLD" and treatment information as: "At or below 1 degrees Celsius for 16 days or more."

Note: Treatment dates must be included in the appropriate field.

Option 1 (EXDOC Endorsement 563)
1) The grapes in this consignment were produced in the Riverland which is recognised as a fruit fly free area,
2) The grapes in this consignment were inspected and found to be free from quarantine pests specified by APQA and are considered free from Greeneria uvicola and Epiphyas postvittana.
3) This is to further certify that grapes from the Riverland, South Australia covered by this certificate are free of Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tyroni), and they have been grown and packed in designated export areas for Korea excluding regulated areas.

Option 2 (EXDOC Endorsement 572)
1) The grapes in this consignment were inspected and found to be free from quarantine pests specified by APQA and are considered free from Greeneria uvicola and Epiphyas postvittana, 
2) The grapes in this consignment were produced in Tasmania which is recognised as a fruit fly free area.

Option 3 (EXDOC Endorsement 1421)
1) The grapes in this consignment were inspected and found to be free from quarantine pests specified by APQA and are considered free from Greeneria uvicola and Epiphyas postvittana,
2) The consignment was cold treated onshore.

Option 4 (EXDOC Endorsement 2666)
1) The grapes in this consignment were inspected and found to be free from quarantine pests specified by APQA and are considered free from Greeneria uvicola and Epiphyas postvittana,
2) The consignment will be continuously treated at 1 degrees C or below for a duration of 16 days.

Option 5 (EXDOC Endorsement 2667)
1) The grapes in this consignment were inspected and found to be free from quarantine pests specified by APQA and are considered free from Greeneria uvicola and Epiphyas postvittana,
2) The consignment will be continuously treated at 2 degrees C or below for a duration of 18 days.

Option 6 (EXDOC Endorsement 2668)
1) The grapes in this consignment were inspected and found to be free from quarantine pests specified by APQA and are considered free from Greeneria uvicola and Epiphyas postvittana,
2) The consignment will be continuously treated at 3 degrees C or below for a duration of 20 days.
