Consignments must be washed and free from soil, plant debris, dead or live insect pests, and signs of disease.

The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.
Original and certified translation of the import permit must be presented to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.
Prior to export the consignment must be inspected and be declared free of quarantine pests and diseases and free form other injurious pests and diseases. If pests, soil or other contaminants are found during inspection product may be reconditioned by treating with either methyl bromide or cold treatment. If used, reconditioning treatment details must be included in the inspection record.
 
All packing material must be new.
 
Import permit and phytosanitary certificate must be presented at arrival. If these are not available, the consignment will be detained at the port of entry at the importer’s expense.
 
Carrots must be de-topped.

Reconditioning

If pests soil or other contaminants are detected at inspection the product can either:

a.    Undergo fumigation with methyl bromide at 32g/m3 for 2 hours 

OR

b.    Be kept in cold storage at 0 degrees Celsius to 10 degrees Celsius for 16 days 

Note: details of the reconditioning treatment used must be included on the inspection record.
