Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.


A copy of the import permit must be presented to an Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.


The following material must not be used as packaging:
  • Banana leaves
  • Maize straw
  • Rice straw
  • Sorghum straw
  • Palm straw
  • Wheat straw
  • Leaf mould
If any other plant residue is used as packaging material, the consignment must be accompanied by a treatment certificate stating:
  • "All seed, pathogens and insects have been killed before use of the material either by heating to 83 degrees Celsius for 10 minutes or by chemical treatment."
The heat treatment details are also to be attested on the phytosanitary certificate. Exporter to provide evidence attesting to the treatment if applied to the packaging material.

Additional declarations are only to be endorsed on the Phytosanitary certificate when specified on the import permit.
Consignments are to be treated with an appropriate insecticide at recommendedmanufacturers’ requirements (refer to the import permit).

The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

Consignments do not require treatment prior to export where the import permit issued does not state this. Phytosanitary certificate will be issued with no treatment endorsed.
