Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.

These import conditions apply to cereal, legume and grass seeds (excluding the species listed below) to be exported to Kazakhstan for scientific research purposes.


Seed species to which the import conditions do not apply:

  • Triticum spp
  • Triticosecale spp
  • Zea mays
  • Oryza spp

Explanation of the endorsements

Endorsement 6699 (for cereal and grass seeds):

Cereal and grass seeds for research must be free of quarantine pests specified in paragraph 1, Table 1, of the Common Rules No.157 approved by the Council of Eurasian Economic Commission on 30 November 2016.

Following pests are not known to occur in Australia. Freedom from these pests may be endorsed without any supporting evidence:

  • Giant ragweed (Ambrosia trifida)
  • White morning-glory (Ipomoea lacunosa)
  • Horse nettle (Solanum carolinense)
  • Cutleaf nightshade and small nightshade (Solanum triflorum)
  • Texas blueweed and yerba parda (Helianthus ciliaris)
  • Oneseed bur cucumber (Sicyos angulatus)
  • Brazil bean weevil (Zabrotes subfasciatus)
  • Khapra beetle (TrŠ¾goderma granarium)
  • Broad-nosed grain weevil (Caulophilus latinasus)


Freedom from the following pests may be endorsed based on visual inspection by the Authorised Officer:

  • Western ragweed (Ambrosia psilostachya)
  • Common ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia)
  • Poverty weed (Iva axillaris)
  • Russian knapweed (Acroptilon repens)
  • Ivy-leaved morning glory (Ipomoea hederacea)
  • Buffalobur Nightshade or Buffalo Burr (Solanum rostratum)
  • Silverleaf nightshade (Solanum elaeagnifolium)
  • Hairy beggarticks (Bidens pilosa)
  • Spanish needles (Bidens bipinnata)
  • Spiny burr grass (Cenchrus longispinus)
  • Cowpea weevils (Callosobruchus spp)


A laboratory analysis certificate, area or place of production freedom certificate or a crop inspection certificate must be provided as evidence of freedom from:

  • Dodder (Cuscuta spp)

An area or place of production freedom certificate must be provided as evidence of freedom from:

  • Witchweed (Striga spp)


Endorsement 6699 (for legume seeds):

Legume seeds for research must originate from an area or a place of production free from the following pests in addition to meeting the requirements for cereal and grass seeds outlined above.

  • Tomato ringspot nepovirus
  • Purple cercospora spot (Cercospora kikuchii) 
  • Tobacco ringspot nepovirus

Tomato ringspot nepovirus is not known to occur in Australia. Freedom from this pest may be endorsed without any supporting evidence.

An area or place of production freedom certificate must be provided as evidence of freedom from:

  • Purple cercospora spot (Cercospora kikuchii) 
  • Tobacco ringspot nepovirus


Where applicable, the exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the endorsement and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.
