Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds, evidence of disease and extraneous material including crop residue. There is a zero tolerance for cotton seeds in the consignment.

Permit option 1

The cotton was produced in an area free of Pink Bollworm (Pectinophora gossypiella).

An area of production freedom statement must be cited as evidence to endorse freedom from Pink Bollworm (Pectinophora gossypiella).

The consignment must be fumigated prior to export using one of the options outlined in the treatment section.

The bales must be suitably bagged or packaged to prevent infestation.

The consignment must be exported directly from Australia to Iran, no re-exporting via a third country is allowed.

Permit option 2

The cotton was not produced in an area free of Pink Bollworm (Pectinophora gossypiella).

The consignment will be treated immediately on arrival in Iran as per import permit.

The bales must be suitably bagged or packaged in a way permeable to gas treatment.

The consignment may be re-exported via a third country with an accompanying Australian phytosanitary certificate.

Explanation of the endorsements

Endorsement 5464:

Applies when using Permit option 1 to endorse freedom on phytosanitary certificate.

No endorsement is required on the phytosanitary certificate if the exporter is using Permit option 2.
Treatment applies to exporter's using permit option 1.

Consignments are to be fumigated prior to export with either:

  • Methyl bromide at 40 grm/m3 for 24 hours at 21 degrees Celsius NAP or greater;

OR

  • Phosphine at 2 grm/m3 for 5 days at 15 degrees Celsius or greater.

The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.
