Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.

Where applicable, the exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the endorsement and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

If an import permit is provided with no conditions, please refer to the conditions below.

Seed potatoes must be practically free of soil. The departments soil tolerance applies in this regards (Contaminants include more than 25g of soil per sample taken for 2 per cent inspections and 25g of soil in the combined samples for the inspection lot for 600 unit inspections).

Seed potatoes for export to Indonesia can only be sourced from Victoria, South Australia or Western Australia.

Explanation of the endorsements

Endorsements 3241 and 3269:

Applies for seed potatoes sourced from South Australia or Victoria.

This is a protocol market. Detailed information can be found in the protocol available through MICoR Plants in the 'Documents' section. Access is restricted and requires a logon. For this market, no grower or packhouse registration with the department is required.

Seed potatoes grown in the states of South Australia or Victoria must be produced and certified under an approved seed potato scheme recognised by Indonesia. Seed potatoes are required to meet Indonesia's protocol requirements, and must be inspected by an authorised officer with the protocol job function HEP4001:8 Export horticulture protocol markets: Root vegetable protocol group.

Only seed potato varieties intended for processing can be exported and must be Atlantic or similar variety.

The weight of each bag of seed potatoes must not exceed 25kg. Each package or bag must be labelled or accompanied with a certificate from an approved seed potato certifier recognised by Indonesia.

Documentation is required from a seed potato certifier recognised by Indonesia, to declare production area freedom or freedom through visual inspection for the following:

  • Potato spindle tuber pospiviroid (PSTVd),
  • Tobacco streak ilarvirus (TSV),
  • Yellow Potato cyst nematode (Globodera rostochiensis),
  • Brown ring disease of hyacinth (Ditylenchus dipsaci),
  • Stunt nematode (Tylenchorynchus claytoni),
  • Root lesion nematode (Pratylenchus penetrans and P. brachyurus),
  • northern root knot nematode (Meloidogyne hapla),
  • Black leg disease (Pectobacterium atrosepticum),
  • Black leg (Dickeya dianthicola),
  • Foot rot (Dickeya chrysanthemi),
  • Silver scurf (Helminthosporium solani),
  • Violet root rot (Helicobasidium brebissonii),
  • Pink rot disease (Phytophthora cryptogea),
  • Black rot disease (Phytophthora megasperma),
  • Sclerotinia wilt (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum) and
  • Powdery scab (Spongospora subterranea f.sp suberranea).


Endorsement 1265:

Applies for seed potatoes sourced from Western Australia.

Only seed potato produced by seed potato growers who are registered in Western Australia under a Seed Potato Certification scheme are permitted to be exported to Indonesia.

All seed potatoes must meet a rating of 1, 2 or 3 according to the Western Australian Registered Seed Potato Scheme Production Rules.

Documentation of active surveillance is required to declare production area freedom from the following pests: 

  • Potato cyst nematode (Globodera rostochiensis),
  • Skin spot (Polyscytalum pustulens),
  • Powdery scab (Spongospora subterranea),
  • Blackleg (Erwinia carotovora spp atroseptica) and
  • Tomato spotted wilt virus.
Where Endorsement 1265 applies, the authorised officer does not need to have the protocol job function HEP4001:8 Export inspection horticulture protocol markets: Root vegetable protocol group.
Where applicable, seed potatoes must be treated with a fungicide, where a fungicide treatment has been applied the treatment must be recorded in the treatment section of the phytosanitary certificate.

The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.
Option 1 (EXDOC Endorsement 3241)
1) Potato spindle tuber pospiviroid (PSTVd), Tobacco streak ilarvirus (TSV), Yellow Potato cyst nematode (Globodera rostochiensis), Brown ring disease of hyacinth (Ditylenchus dipsaci), Stunt nematode (Tylenchorynchus claytoni), Root lesion nematode (Pratylenchus penetrans and P. brachyurus), northern root knot nematode (Meloidogyne hapla), Black leg disease (Pectobacterium atrosepticum), Black leg (Dickeya dianthicola), Foot rot (Dickeya chrysanthemi), Silver scurf (Helminthosporium solani), Violet root rot (Helicobasidium brebissonii), Pink rot disease (Phytophthora cryptogea), Black rot disease (Phytophthora megasperma), Sclerotinia wilt (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum) and Powdery scab (Spongospora subterranea f.sp suberranea) are known not to occur in the area of production.
2) A representative sample was inspected and found free of Citrophilus mealybug (Pseudococcus calceolariae)

Option 2 (EXDOC Endorsement 3269)
1) Yellow Potato cyst nematode (Globodera rostochiensis), Brown ring disease of hyacinth (Ditylenchus dipsaci), Stunt nematode (Tylenchorynchus claytoni), Root lesion nematode (Pratylenchus penetrans and P. brachyurus) and Northern root knot nematode (Meloidogyne hapla) are known not to occur in the area of production.
2) Seed potatoes were visually inspected in accordance with a seed potato scheme and found free from disease symptoms of Potato spindle tuber pospiviroid (PSTVd), Tobacco streak ilarvirus (TSV), Black leg disease (Pectobacterium atrosepticum), Black leg (Dickeya dianthicola), Foot rot (Dickeya chrysanthemi), Silver scurf (Helminthosporium solani), Violet root rot (Helicobasidium brebissonii), Pink rot disease (Phytophthora cryptogea), Black rot disease (Phytophthora megasperma), Sclerotinia wilt (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum) and Powdery scab (Spongospora subterranea f.sp suberranea)
3) A representative sample was inspected and found free of Citrophilus mealybug (Pseudococcus calceolariae)

Option 3 (EXDOC Endorsement 1265)
1) Potato rot nematode (Ditylenchus destructor), Golden cyst nematode (Globodera pallida), Bacterial ring rot of potato (Clavibacter michiganesis subsp sepedonicum) and New Zealand black wart (Synchytrium endobioticum) are not known to occur in Australia,
2) Potato cyst nematode (Globodera rostochiensis), Skin spot (Polyscytalum pustulens), Powdery scab (Spongospora subterranea), Blackleg (Erwinia carotovora spp atroseptica) and Tomato spotted wilt virus are known not to occur in the area of production.
