Exporters should be aware that some Australian consignments of processed plant products are being detained in India. The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources is working with India's Quarantine officials to have these consignments cleared as soon as possible. Australian exporters are encouraged to check with their importers for current import conditions prior to certification being issued by the department.

Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.


To facilitate trade, a certificate as to Conditions may be issued with the following statement when requested by the exporter:
"Steam Rolled Barley has been mechanically pearled to remove outer layers of barley. It is then directly steamed at 100 degree Celsius for --- minutes and above and rolled". 

Explanation of endorsement:

Endorsement 5568

  • Visual inspection of a representative sample is required for endorsing freedom from Ergot (Claviceps purpurea) and Granary weevil (Sitophilus granarius)
  • All consignments must be free from India's quarantine weed seeds as per Schedule VIII of PQ Order 2003. Exporter must provide a laboratory analysis certificate attesting to the endorsement and to present to the Authorised Officer at time of inspection.
  • In Addition, visual inspection by the Authorised Officer must be undertaken as per instructional m aterial for endorsing freedom from the following quarantine weed seeds.
  • Visual inspection by an Authorised Officer is sufficient to endorse freedom from soil (as per normal tolerances).

Where applicable, the exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the endorsement and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

To facilitate trade, exporters may request an endorsement if the consignment is fumigated with methyl bromide at 32 grm/m3 for 24 hours at 21 degrees Celsius or above at NAP.

The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

Fumigation treatment is not mandatory.

1) The consignment is free from Ergot (Claviceps purpurea) and Granary Weevil (Sitophilus granaries).
