Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.


Phytosanitary certificate required:
  • for untreated, air dried, fumigated bark and for all pine bark.
  • Phytosanitary certificate OR treatment certificate required for new and unused timber that have been heat treated or treated with a permanent chemical preservative.

Heat treatment mandatory for Myrtaceae species.

Methyl bromide fumigation rates for pine bark:
  • 400gm/m3 for 24 hours at 20 degrees celsius or higher:
OR
  • 500gm/m3 for 24 hours at 16-19 degrees celsius.
OR
  • 600gm/m3 for 24 hours at 11-15 degrees celsius.

Ethylene oxide fumigation rates for pine bark:

(inder initial vacuum of 50kpa)
  • 1500gm/m3 for 4 hours at 50 degrees celsius.
OR
  • 1500gm/m3 for 24 hours at 21 degrees celsius.

Methyl bromide fumigation rates for bark other than pine bark and myrtaceae species:

  • 48gm/m3 for 24 hours at temperatures greater than 20 degrees celsius.
OR
  • 56gm/m3 for 24 hours at 16-20 degrees celsius;
OR
  • 64gm/m3 for 24 hours at 11-15 degrees celsius.
OR
  • 72gm/m3 for 24 hours at 6-10 degrees celsius.
Fumigation must be undertaken within 21 days prior to export.

Heat treatment:
  • 70 degrees celsius minimum temperature in the centre of product for 4 hours minimum (all species other than Myrtaceae)
  • 85 degrees celsius minimum temperature in the centre of product for 8 hours minimum (Myrtaceae species)
Heat treatment must be undertaken within 21 days prior to export.

Gamma Irradiation:
  • 25 kGray
  • Gamma irradiation must be undertaken within 21 days prior to export.
  • After treatment, bark must be packaged and/or shipped in such a way as to prevent contamination by quarantine pests.

The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.
