All fresh fruits and vegetables to Fiji must undergo a targeted inspection for fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda). Please refer to the Reference: Pests, diseases and contaminants of horticultural commodities and the Reference: Plant exports guide – Sampling horticulture for information on this pest and conducting a targeted inspection.
The produce must be packed in:
- entire polythene bags within the packages
OR
- in packages without vents
OR
- in packages with lids which fit completely over the base with aeration vents in the lids suitably screened against the entry of fruit flies.
Consignments must be treated prior to export by either:
Fumigation withmethyl bromide at:
- 32grm/m3 at 21 degrees Celsius for 2 hours;
OR
- 40grm/m3 at 16-20 degrees Celsius for 2 hours;
OR
- 48 grm/m3 at 10-15 degrees Celsius for 2 hours;
OR (if included on import permit)
- Cool storage for 14 days at zero degrees Celsius (plus or minus 1 degrees celsius after pre cooling)
Option 1 (EXDOC Endorsement 7747)
1) Fumigated with methyl bromide,
2) The consignment was inspected and found free from all life stages of Spodoptera frugiperda (Fall armyworm).
Option 2 (EXDOC Endorsement 7750)
1) The produce has been subjected to cold treatment prior to shipping,
2) The consignment was inspected and found free from all life stages of Spodoptera frugiperda (Fall armyworm).
