Consignments are to be packed in clean, new packages/bags not previously used for any purpose.


All fresh fruits and vegetables to Fiji must undergo a targeted inspection for fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda). Please refer to the Reference: Pests, diseases and contaminants of horticultural commodities and the Reference: Plant exports guide – Sampling horticulture for information on this pest and conducting a targeted inspection.

Original and certified translation of the import permit must be presented to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.
 
Import permits may state "Citrus fruits have been grown and packed in an area not less than 80km (50 miles) from an area where any harmful species of fruit fly exists." Only produce sourced from the fruit fly pest free area (PFA) of Tasmania can meet this requirement. Produce sourced from the Riverland (South Australia) requires treatment as it does not comply with Fiji's PFA requirements.

Explanation of the endorsements

Endorsement 7747:
Applies to product treated by fumigation with methyl bromide.

Endorsement 3273:
Applies to product treated by onshore cold treatment.

Endorsement 7383:
Applies to product that will be subject to in-transit cold treatment en route.

Endorsement 7746:
Applies to product sourced from the fruit fly PFA of Tasmania.
 
Where applicable, the exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the endorsement and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.
Citrus consignments sourced from the fruit fly PFA of Tasmania do not require treatment. Consignments sourced from all other parts of Australia require one of the below treatments.
 
The import permit may not include all treatments shown below and/or all treatment parameters. The exporter must use the treatment parameters as stated on the import permit.
 
Consignments are to be treated prior to arrival in Fiji by either:
 
Fumigation prior to export with Methyl bromide at:
  • 64 grm / m3 at 10-15 degrees Celsius for 2 hours;

OR

  • 56 grm / m3 at 16-20 degrees Celsius for 2 hours;

OR

  • 48 grm / m3 at 21 degrees Celsius for 2 hours
OR
 
Subjected to cold treatment either on-shore or in transit for:
  • 14 days at 0 degrees Celsius (plus or minus 1 degree Celsius after precooling).
The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.
 
Details of treatment to be endorsed on the phytosanitary certificate in the treatment section.

Option 1 (EXDOC Endorsement 7747)
1) Fumigated with methyl bromide,
2) The consignment was inspected and found free from all life stages of Spodoptera frugiperda (Fall armyworm).

Option 2 (EXDOC Endorsement 3273)
1) The produce has been subjected to onshore cold disinfestation treatment,
2) The consignment was inspected and found free from all life stages of Spodoptera frugiperda (Fall armyworm).

Option 3 (EXDOC Endorsement 7383)
1) The produce will be subject to in-transit cold disinfestation treatment,
2) The consignment was inspected and found free from all life stages of Spodoptera frugiperda (Fall armyworm).

Option 4 (EXDOC Endorsement 7746)
1) The consignment was inspected and found free from all life stages of Spodoptera frugiperda (Fall armyworm).
