Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.

Consignments are to be packed in clean, new packages/bags not previously used for any purpose.

All fresh fruits and vegetables to Fiji must undergo a targeted inspection for fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda). Please refer to the Reference: Pests, diseases and contaminants of horticultural commodities and the Reference: Plant exports guide – Sampling horticulture for information on this pest and conducting a targeted inspection.

The produce must be packed in either:

  • Entire polythene bags within the packages

OR

  • In packages without vents

OR

  • In packages with lids which fit completely over the base with aeration vents in the lids suitably screened against the entry of fruit flies.

The following areas are recognised as pest free areas for Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni) and Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata):

  • Tasmania, and
  • the Riverland region of South Australia.

A copy of the import permit must be presented to an Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

Where applicable, the exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the endorsement and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

Consignments are to be fumigated with Methyl bromide prior to export according to the treatment details on the Import permit at:
 
  • 48grm/m3 at 10-15 degrees Celsius for 2 hours
OR
  • 40grm/m3 at 16-20 degrees Celsius for 2 hours
OR
  • 32grm/m3 at 21 degrees Celsius for 2 hours.

The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.
 
Details of treatment to be endorsed on the phytosanitary certificate in the treatment section.
Option 1 (EXDOC Endorsement 1997)
1) The cucurbits were grown on a property approved as having maintained a regular spray program in the field with an insecticide registered for use against Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni) and Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata) and which achieved a high level of control,
2) The consignment was inspected and found free from all life stages of Spodoptera frugiperda (Fall armyworm).
 
Option 2 (EXDOC Endorsement 6227)
1) The cucurbits were grown in an area officially recognized as an area free of Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni) and Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata). An area freedom certificate must be provided to demonstrate compliance to this requirement,
2) The consignment was inspected and found free from all life stages of Spodoptera frugiperda (Fall armyworm).
