Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.
A copy of the import permit must be presented to an Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

Bacterial gall (Rhizobium rhizogenes) and Tobacco streak virus are not on the Medicago sativa seed export pathway. Freedom from these pests may be endorsed without any supporting evidence.

Explanation of the endorsements:

Endorsement 8445:

  • Horsenettle (Solanum carolinense), Perennial sowthistle (Sonchus arvensis), Potato witches' broom phytoplasma and Stubby root nematode (Trichodorus viruliferus) are not known to occur in Australia. No evidence is required to endorse freedom from these pests.
  • A crop inspection report is required for endorsing freedom from Couch grass (Elymus repens) and Field pennycress (Thlaspi arvense).
  • Hairy root disease (Rhizobium rhizogenes) and Tobacco streak virus are not on the Medicago sativa seed export pathway. Freedom from these pests may be endorsed without any supporting evidence.
  • Visual inspection by an Authorised Officer is sufficient to endorse freedom from White fringed beetle (Naupactus leucoloma).
Option 1 (Endorsement 8445)
1) Horsenettle (Solanum carolinense), Perennial sowthistle (Sonchus arvensis), Potato witches' broom phytoplasma and Stubby root nematode (Trichodorus viruliferus) are not known to occur in Australia,
2) The consignment was found free through official testing and inspection procedures of Couch grass (Elymus repens), Hairy root disease (Rhizobium rhizogenes), Field pennycress (Thlaspi arvense) and Tobacco streak virus,
3) A representative sample was inspected and found free of White fringed beetle (Naupactus leucoloma) and natural soil.
