Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.


An Ergot tolerance of 0.01% applies.

Phytosanitary Certificate is not required for small shipments (up to 100kgm).

A copy of the import permit must be presented to an Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.


The Authorised Officer must apply a tolerance of 25 seeds/kg for the combined total of the following weed seeds:
  • Wild oat (Avena fatua L.)
  • Winter wild oat (Avena sterilis L.)
  • Spreading dayflower (Commelina diffusa)
  • Bindweed (Convolvulus arvensis)
  • Black bindweed (Fallopia convolvulus)
  • Ipomoea spp (carica, eriocarpa,hederaceae and purpurea)
  • Darnel ryegrass (Lolium temulentum)
  • Perennial wild rice (Oryza longistaminata)
  • Johnson grass (Sorghum halepense (L) Pers).

The Authorised Officer must apply a tolerance of 10 seeds/kg for Common ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia) and Giant ragweed (Ambrosia trifida).

Note: Giant ragweed (Ambrosia trifida) is not known to occur in Australia.

If required by the import permit, the statement "Not intended for cultivation" may be entered in the "Additional product description field" section of the EXDOC Request for Permit (RFP). To enable the field on the RFP the exporter must submit a request to the EXDOC Plant Programs via email (EXDOCPlantPrograms.agriculture.gov.au).

A Certificate as to Condition (EX46 manual) (GX46E electronic) may be issued if requested by the exporter. The issuance of the Certificate as to Condition is to certify the following radiation statement:
The goods described on this certificate have not been contaminated by radioactive elements from nuclear fall-out. They therefore fall within the permissible limit set by the Egyptian Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade.


Advance Cargo Information (ACI) pre-clearance system for exports to Egypt:

On 1 October 2021, the Egyptian government implemented the Advance Cargo Information (ACI) pre-clearance system for all sea freight via the National Single Window for Foreign Trade Facilitation (NAFEZA) System. The use of ACI for air freight will become mandatory on 1 October 2022.

Egyptian importers are required to use the NAFEZA Platform to register incoming shipments. All exporters of grains, pulses, nuts, seeds for sowing and other plant products to Egypt are required to register their company and complete ACI for shipments exported to Egypt using the CargoX Platform.
