Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.


It is the exporter's responsibility to ensurethat seeds meet Chile's quality requirements for seeds for sowing. Chile'sNPPO may reject consignments if they do not meet the requirements.

Where applicable, the exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the endorsement and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.


Any consignments with an ISTA analysis certificate which states a presence of soil greater than 0.1% of the sample (weight by weight) are required to be retested in Chile for soil. If testing in Chile confirms that soil presence is greater than 0.1% of the sample weight, the consignment will be rejected. Additionally, if soil is found during on-arrival inspection in Chile, the consignment will be rejected. It is the exporter's responsibility to ensure the soil content of a consignment meets Chile's requirements.

Explanation of the endorsements:

Endorsement 532:

  • Seed weevils (Apion africans, Apion aestivum and Apion virens) are not known to occur in Australia. No evidence is required to endorse freedom from these pests.
  • A crop inspection certificate is required to endorse freedom from Bacterial wilt of alfalfa (Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. insidiosus).
Endorsement 1076:
  • Seed weevils (Apion africans, Apion aestivum and Apion virens) are not known to occur in Australia. No evidence is required to endorse freedom from these pests.
  • A laboratory analysis certificate indicating that a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) process was used is required to endorse freedom from Bacterial wilt of alfalfa (Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. insidiosus).
Endorsement 8166:
  • Seed weevils (Apion africans, Apion aestivum and Apion virens) are not known to occur in Australia. No evidence is required to endorse freedom from these pests.
  • A laboratory analysis certificate indicating that a loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) DNA assay was used is required to endorse freedom from Bacterial wilt of alfalfa (Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. insidiosus).
Option 1 (EXDOC Endorsement 532)
1) Seed weevils (Apion africans, Apion aestivum and Apion virens) are not known to occur in Australia,
2) The seed in the consignment comes from a crop that was inspected during active growth and found free from Bacterial wilt of alfalfa (Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. insidiosus).

Option 2 (EXDOC Endorsement 1076)
1) Seed weevils (Apion africans, Apion aestivum and Apion virens) are not known to occur in Australia,
2) According to the results of official laboratory test using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique, the seed in the consignment was found free of Bacterial wilt of alfalfa (Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. insidiosus).

Option 3 (EXDOC Endorsement 8166)

1) Seed weevils (Apion africans, Apion aestivum and Apion virens) are not known to occur in Australia,
2) According to the results of official laboratory test using loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) DNA assay, the seed in the consignment was found free of Bacterial wilt of alfalfa (Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. insidiosus).
