Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.


It is the exporter's responsibility to ensurethat seeds meet Chile's quality requirements for seeds for sowing. Chile'sNPPO may reject consignments if they do not meet the requirements.

Any consignments with an ISTA analysis certificate which states a presence of soil greater than 0.1% of the sample (weight by weight) are required to be retested in Chile for soil. If testing in Chile confirms that soil presence is greater than 0.1% of the sample weight, the consignment will be rejected. Additionally, if soil is found during on-arrival inspection in Chile, the consignment will be rejected. It is the exporter's responsibility to ensure the soil content of a consignment meets Chile's requirements.

Note: The Chilean NPPO conducts germination testing on arrival. It is the exporter's responsibility to verify germination requirements with the Chilean NPPO and to meet Chile's germination requirements.
Consignment to be fumigated with:

Methyl bromide at:

  • 48grm/m3 at 21 degrees Celsius or above for 2.5 hours; 

OR

  • 48grm/m3 at 15.9 - 20.9 degrees Celsius for 3 hours;
OR
  • 48grm/m3 at 10.0 - 15.4 degrees Celsius for 3.5 hours
Gas concentrations must be monitored and recorded at the start of fumigation and at reading times as shown in Table 1 after equilibrium has been achieved to assure that the minimum concentration of methyl bromide is maintained.

  • 2 grm/m3 for 7 days at 10-15.9 degrees Celsius;

OR

  • 2 grm/m3 for 6 days at 16-20.9 degrees Celsius;

  • 2 grm/m3 for 5 days at 21-25.9 degrees Celsius;

  • 2 grm/m3 for 4 days at 26 degrees Celsius or greater


Note: The Department's minor use permit for Phosphine does not allow for Phosphine treatment periods of less than: 
  • 7 days when commodity temperature is above 25 degrees Celsius;
  • 10 days when commodity temperature is 15 degrees Celsius to 25 degrees Celsius.
In instances where the treatment period is longer than Chile's prescribed treatment period, the treatment period should be endorsed as "[Chile's prescribed period] or above." 

The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.
