Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.

This ICR only applies to the following bulbs, corms and tubers:

  • Crocus spp
  • Dahlia spp
  • Hemerocallis spp
  • Iris spp
A copy of the import permit must be presented to an Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.


The bulbs/tubers must be free of all growing media, soil and/or related matter.

Bulbs/tubers with soil or related matter or with soil-free growing media not imported under the Canadian Growing Media Program are PROHIBITED.

Exporter to provide evidence attesting to the endorsement and to present to the Authorised Officer at time of inspection.

Consignments must be correctly labelled with its full botanical name (genus and species).

Consignments are to be packed in clean, new packages/bags not previously used for any purpose.


Plants with roots must be certified as free from the following soil-borne pests:

  • Golden cysts nematode (Globodera pallida) – not present in Australia
  • Potato cyst nematode (Globodera rostochiensis) - present in Australia
  • Potato wart disease (Synchitrium endobioticum) – not present in Australia

The following options may be used to ensure that plants with roots are free from these pests:
Option 1: The pest is known not to occur in the country of origin of the material (not applicable)
Option 2: The material is grown in soil where, based on official soil surveys or other precautionary practices, the pest is known not to occur (attest by - official area freedom certificate - from a state government)
Option 3: The material is grown in sterile, soil-free growing media and produced under conditions that preclude infestation by the pest (attest by - nursery declaration)
