Small seed lots do not need to be sent with phytosanitary certificates. Seed lots of large seeded species consisting of 5 kilograms or less, and seed lots of small seeded species consisting of 500 grams or less, are considered small lots as per NPPO regulations (section L). A seed lot may consist of one or more packages. Exporters should verify entry requirements, including what qualifies as a small seed or large seed, with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency prior to export.
Canola (Brassica napus var. napus) is a prescribed grain under the Export Control (Plants and Plant Products) Rules 2021 and export consignments need to be inspected by an Authorised Officer at a registered establishment as per standard requirements for exporting under export permits, regardless of whether a phytosanitary certificate is issued.
