Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.


A copy of the import permit must be presented to an Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

It is the exporter’s responsibility to ensure that the phytosanitary certificate is issued within 14 days of the consignment being exported from Australia.

Refer to the departure date and inspection date in the Request for Permit.
Consignments are to be packed in clean, new packages/bags not previously used for any purpose.


Each packaging must be clearly labelled with the manufacturer's details and have a printed label indicating the scientific name of the seed and the country of origin.

The ICR applies to:
  • Couch grass (Cynodon dactylon) seed
  • Carpet grass (Axonopus affinis) seed
  • Carpet grass (Axonopus fissifolius) seed
  • Bahia grass (Paspalum notatum) seed.
Note that import permits which do not contain all three species may be issued.

Exporters who intend to export other species of grass seeds must provide a copy of the import permit to the Grain and Seed Export Program (Grain.Export@awe.gov.au) for assessment.

Imported seed to be re-exported to Brunei

The country of origin must be indicated on the phytosanitary certificate for re-export.

Seed must be treated as below:

  • Thiram at a rate of 1.2 grams a.i. per 1000 grams of seed
OR

Seeds must be treated by dipping or seed dressing with one of the following fungicides.

  • 0.3% Mancozeb
OR
  • 0.4% Tetramethylthiuram disulfide (TMDT)
The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

Note:
  • Other products containing an equivalent active ingredient may also be acceptable. 
  • Exporters wishing to use an alternative chemical treatment are to confirm the requirements with Brunei prior to export.
