Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.

Original and certified translation of the import permit must be presented to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

Import permit conditions that may differ to these requirements must be referred to the Horticulture Export Program for assessment before the commencement of export inspection.

Bangladesh's current Plant Quarantine Rules permits the following export pathways:

  • Product sourced from a fruit fly pest free area (PFA), followed by refrigeration during transit;

OR

  • Product sourced from outside a fruit fly PFA undergoing onshore cold treatment, followed by refrigeration during transit;

OR

  • Product sourced from outside a fruit fly PFA undergoing in-transit cold treatment.
OR
  • Product sourced from outside a fruit fly PFA undergoing fumigation treatment, followed by refrigeration during transit;
Fruit is to be free of leaves and peduncles.

The Import permit number must be quoted in the phytosanitary certificate.

Prior to export the consignment must be inspected and declared free from injurious pests and diseases or has been treated by effective fumigation or other treatment and found free from injurious insect pests and diseases.

Explanation of fruit fly pest free areas (PFAs)

The following areas are recognised as pest free areas for Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni) and Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata):

  •              Tasmania
AND
Exporters sourcing fruit from the Riverland must present a State government certificate at the time of inspection which states all fruit was sourced from properties outside the suspension areas.

All consignments using solid wood packing material must comply with ISPM-15.

All packing materials such as hay, straw, chaff etc. are to be sterilised and free from soil particles. Evidence of sterilisation is to be presented to the authorised officer at time of inspection.

Where applicable, the exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the endorsement and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

If specified on the import permit, all consignments using solid wood packing material must comply with ISPM-15.

Explanation of the endorsements

Endorsement 7218:

Fruit sourced from Tasmania or the Riverland of South Australia which are recognised as free from Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni) and Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata). Exporter to provide evidence that the fruit was sourced from either Tasmania or the Riverland.
Fruits are subject to intransit cold refrigeration. 

Endorsement 7219:

Fruit has undergone treatment (onshore cold treatment or fumigation). Exporter to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present to the authorised officer at time of inspection.
Fruits are subject to intransit cold refrigeration.
 
Endorsement 7220:

Fruit will be subject to in-transit cold treatment.

Cold treatment schedules

For areas where Queensland fruit fly is present:
  • 0.0 degrees Celsius or below for 13 days;
OR

  • 0.55 degrees Celsius or below for 14 days;
OR
  • 1.1 degrees Celsius or below for 18 days;

For areas where Mediterranean fruit fly is present;


  • 0.0 degree celsius or below for 10 days;
OR

  • 0.55 degrees celsius or below for 11 days;
OR

  • 1.1 degrees celsius or below for 12 days

Onshore cold treatment requirements:

Fruit must also be refrigerated while in transit. Refrigeration is the responsibility of the exporter.

Details of treatment to be endorsed on the phytosanitary certificate in the treatment section.

Methyl bromide fumigation

Methyl bromide fumigation at 40grm/m3 for 2 hours at 21 degrees Celsius or above at NAP or equivalent thereof against Mediterranean fruit fly, Queensland fruit fly and Scale insects.

Fruit must also be refrigerated while in transit. Refrigeration is the responsibility of the exporter.

The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

Format for Cold treatment onshore (example)

Treatment code as: “COLD" and treatment information as: “At 0.0 degree celsius or below for 13 days"

Format for fumigation treatment (example)

Treatment code as: “FUMIG" and treatment information as: “With Methyl bromide at 40grm/m3 at 21 degrees Celsius  for 2 hours",

Note: Treatment dates must be included in the appropriate field.

Option 1 (EXDOC Endorsement 7218)
1) The fruit of this consignment was produced in Tasmania or the Riverland which is recognised as free from Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni) and Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata),
2) The fruit in this consignment has been inspected and found free from injurious pests and diseases, or has been treated and found free from injurious insect pests and diseases.
3) The fruit will be subjected to in-transit cold refrigeration.

Option 2 (EXDOC Endorsement 7219)
1) A representative sample was inspected and found free of Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni) and Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata),
2) The fruit in this consignment has been inspected and found free from injurious pests and diseases, or has been treated and found free from injurious insect pests and diseases.
2) The fruit will be subjected to in-transit cold refrigeration.

Option 3 (EXDOC Endorsement 7220)
1) A representative sample was inspected and found free of Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni) and Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata),
2) The fruit in this consignment has been inspected and found free from injurious pests and diseases, or has been treated and found free from injurious insect pests and diseases.
3) The fruit is subject to in-transit cold treatment for fruit fly.
