Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.


A copy of the import permit must be presented to an Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

If required by the import permit, seeds must be fumigated with an appropriate fumigant at 2grm/m3 for 16 hours, followed by seed dressing with any approved non-mercuric fungicide at recommended dose.

Notes:
  • The department's minor use permit for Phosphine does not allow for Phosphine treatment periods less than the minimum exposure period specified on each product label. 
  • Seeds must be treated in accordance with both the importing country requirements and the Australian Pesticide and Veterinary Medicine Authority (APVMA)'s label requirements. 
  • In instances where the treatment period is longer than Bangladesh's prescribed treatment period, the treatment period should be endorsed as "[Bangladesh's prescribed period] or more."
  • APVMA cancelled the registration and associated label approvals for most agricultural products containing mercury in 1995 due to environmental concerns. The remaining active constituent approvals containing mercury were cancelled in 2020. Mercury-based fungicides are no longer approved for use in Australia.
