Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.

Original and certified translation of the import permit must be presented to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

Red witchweed (Striga asiatica) is recognised as not occurring in any Australian states and territories except the Mackay region of Queensland. Australian consignments of Sorghum bicolor var. caffrorum seed can be endorsed free from Red witchweed (Striga asiatica) based on exporter's declaration confirming sourcing seeds from areas other than Mackay region of Queensland.

If required the statement "OFFICIAL LABORATORY ANALYSIS NUMBER (NUMBER) / DATE (DATE)" can be entered in the "Additional product description field" section of the EXDOC Request for Permit (RFP). There is to be no deviation from this text format. To enable the field on the RFP the exporter must submit a request to the EXDOC Plant program via (EXDOCPlantPrograms@awe.gov.au).

Where applicable, the exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the endorsement and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

Explanation of the endorsements

Endorsement 3883:

  • Phytosanitary visual inspection of a representative sample may be used for endorsing freedom from Warehouse beetle (Trogoderma variable) and Rice moth (Corcyra cephalonica).
  • Crop inspection during active growth may be used for endorsing freedom from Perennial thistle (Cirsium arvense), Wild turnip (Brassica tournefortii) and Witchweed (Striga curviflora, Striga parviflora, Striga multiflora and Striga squamigera).
Endorsement 3935:
  • Phytosanitary visual inspection of a representative sample may be used for endorsing freedom from Warehouse beetle (Trogoderma variable) and Rice moth (Corcyra cephalonica).
  • Crop inspection during active growth may be used for endorsing freedom from Witchweed (Striga curviflora, Striga parviflora, Striga multiflora and Striga squamigera).
  • Laboratory test analysis may be used for endorsing freedom from Perennial thistle (Cirsium arvense) and Wild turnip (Brassica tournefortii).
Endorsement 3882:

Option 2 (EXDOC Endorsement 3935)
1) The consignment is free of Warehouse beetle (Trogoderma variabile) and Rice moth (Corcyra cephalonica),
2) Sorghum bicolor var. caffrorum seed in this consignment was found free according to the results of laboratory tests of Perennial thistle (Cirsium arvense), Wild turnip (Brassica tournefortii),
3) Sorghum bicolor var. caffrorum seed in this consignment has been sourced from a crop officially inspected during the growing season and found to be free of Witchweed (Striga curviflora, Striga parviflora, Striga multiflora and Striga squamigera).

Option 5 (EXDOC Endorsement 6476)
1) The consignment is free of Warehouse beetle (Trogoderma variabile) and Rice moth (Corcyra cephalonica),
2) The seed in this consignment was found free according to the results of laboratory tests of Perennial thistle (Cirsium arvense) and Wild turnip (Brassica tournefortii), and
3) Theseed in this consignment has been sourced from an area recognised by SENASA as free from Red witch weed (Striga asiatica). Australia is free ofStriga asiatica except the Mackay Region, Queensland.
