Exporters are encouraged to work closely with their importer to obtain an import permit or official importing country requirements.

1. Preconditions for market access

Honey

Import permits are required for each consignment of honey.

Only Australian origin honey is permitted to be exported from Australia to Vanuatu.

2. Documentation requirements

2.1 Government certification

For honey use EX188B certificate (NEXDOC only) with endorsement 604.

1. The entire consignment of honey originates from Australia
2. Attestation to European foulbrood status or treatment:
1. The entire consignment was collected in a state that is free from European foulbrood; or
2. The entire consignment has been processed to ensure the destruction of Melissococcus plutonius by irradiation with 15 kGy or
3. The entire consignment has been treated to ensure the destruction of M. plutonius according to a temperature and time period approved by an Australian competent authority. Before timing was started core samples of honey were temperature tested to ensure that the required temperature had been reached; or
4. The entire consignment has been found free of M. plutonius by a test method described in the relevant chapter of the most recent version of the OIE Terrestrial Manual
3. Attestation to American foulbrood testing or treatment:
1. The entire consignment has been processed to ensure the destruction of both bacillary and spore forms of Paenibacillus larvae by irradiation with 10 kGy or any procedure of equivalent efficacy recognised by an Australian competent authority; or
2. The entire consignment has been found free from spore forms of P.larvae by a test method described in the relevant chapter of the most recent version of the OIE Terrestrial Manual.

Note

Recognized heat treatment procedures for European foulbrood are at the indicated temperatures for the indicated amount of time: 10°C - 22°C for >140 days; 35°C for 28 days; 44°C for 6 days; 50°C for 48 hours; 60°C for 8 hours; 70°C for 210 minutes; 80°C for 60 minutes.

Supporting documents and exporter declarations

The exporter must attach the Manufacturer’s Declaration, Treatment Certificate and/or Certificate of Analysis to the NEXDOC Request for Export (REX) to demonstrate compliance with the relevant attestations in endorsement 604.
